I'm building an Eldar army right now, so that I'll have a playready force when the new 'Dex comes out, and I decided to give them snow bases. I already know, how to do the main part, just paint the base white and put the snow stuff on it, and for normal Infantry, that's just fine, but I need something more interesting for the larger bases, like the jetbikes and Vypers.
for the Avatar, I thought I could use something else than snow around his feet since he's melting it away through his presence alone. but what to put under it. I don't want to use just dirt or something like that, since I thought of the bases more something like Hoth (means: not much left).

so, any Ideas?

One thing I saw awhile ago, that may be easier to do now with all the scenic water products on the market, is something trapped under ice.

I'm not sure what colors you would want to use for an undercoat, that may take some experimenting. The basic idea is to put a fully painted model in the liquid before it sets. A guardsman (who has turned blue) or an icy Marine would look pretty cool (no pun) under the ice.

sounds interesting, and is defintly different than the usual dead-people-on-bases thing. but woul'd that be to thick?

stuff peeping through the snow is definitely more interesting than a 'big blob of white' base. Suggestions: bare branches, paving stones, wrecked enemy machinery?

you could make a mold put the victim in the mold poor the water effect over it then pop it out & then you have a totaly clear base that would definatly be different

It may be too thick on troop bases. I think it would work well on the larger bases for Dreds, MCs, Wraithlords, etc.

I remember seeing someone doing a very original base for his jetbikes and vypers (eldar player too so it fits):
what he did was to put them on the 60mm (dreadnought etc) base on brass wire and add waves coming from the sides, simulating speed and momentum. It was a water base but you could do the same thing with your snow.

Fortress of Solitude-esque crytals, chop up a pencil, shape the ends and paint the bits icy blue!
