Let me start off by saying that Swooping Hawks are some of my favourite Eldar models and they are one of the things that drew me to Eldar in the first place and for my SUPER MEGA APOCALYPSE DREAM FORCE!!! I plan to have 12.

Ok so I was assembling some swooping hawks I got a while back when it came to attaching the wings. I really didn't foresee how hard this would be as no matter what I do they never seem to stick. Then I began to think that even if I did get them to stick transporting them would just beak em off anyway.

So then I thought about magnetizing them but I've never done any magnetizing and know very little about it. That's where you come in Dakka, how viable would it be to magnetize Swooping Hawk wings? Or is there another method that you use to hold then firm so they don't break off in transport?

Are you talking about glueing a pin to the wing and then drilling a hole in the back for it to go in or do you mean drilling a hole in the wing aswell and then connecting them with the pin? If so I'd have thought the wing was too thin to be drilled.

I've tried pinning swooping hawk wings... Nigh on impossible, the connecting lug is too small to drill a hole in without warping severely.

Well they have they're uses even if they are a tad overcosted and anyways they're such great models even if you lose you lose in style.

It is possible to drill and pin the swooping hawk wings to the body. You need a thinner bit (try around 0.5mm) and a very steady hand (as they will snap more easily). It won't amount in much if any warping of the area and it allows one to use regular 33mm paperclips for pins (which are a little under 0.5mm thick.).

I use this size for drilling out pole-arm and spear shafts to reattach the blades when they snap off (or if I'm making a new piece up).

Otherwise, ensure the areas to be glued are clean and free of dust/oils/release agents and use a small dab of epoxy on both the wing mount AND the socket. Allow to go tacky (if using 5 minute stuff, this is around 30 seconds to several minutes - depending on ambient temp) then press together.

If you get glue gooshing out, then you used too much and will have to start again. Separate before the glue cures and allow to set/dry. Scrap off and do it again with less glue. The tip of a tothpick is fine for applying the glue.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

A nice trick for really thin/small parts, is to goto a hardware store and find the SMALLEST nails you can get. Clip off the head of the nail and use the nail itself as the drill. That way when your done drilling, you simply take it out of the drill and its already in there. Really the only way to get those things to work properly would be pinning. magnets are to large and would look a bit gawdy. Good luck. Aslo did you clean the parts first? AND failing that did you scrape off the glue when you tried to reglue using different glue? Because if you didnt clean off the old glue nothing will stick.
