According to the Ork Codex: "Burnas are ideal for slicing up scrap metal." Following that line of thought, doesn't it seem reasonable to assume that Burna Boyz would have some advantage against enemy armor when they assault vehicles? As the rules stand now, burna boyz do as much damage as shoota boyz when they charge a vehicle, despite having weapons that are known as "kan openers."

Does this seem appropriate? Let me hear your thoughts.

This should probably be moved to proposed rules. Not really a YMDC question.

That said, burnas already ignore non-vehicle armor in assaults if you use them as power weapons.

They did in a previous book, burnas got 2d6 penetration.

Who knows why they don't know (though I have a couple of guesses which include the fact that they already destroy hordes and threaten MEQ for a bargain bin price...)

They still do that. They also used to get 2d6 vs vehicles.

Burna boyz either need to have that back or they need a reduction in points cost, imo. They're what, just under 3x as much as the average ork without any added protection?

That would honestly be really nice. Simply because, we have problems taking out Land Raiders. Sure at STR4 youd need to roll 10 or higher, but that would be fairly simple to do with how many attacks Orks can throw out. Orks would benefit nicely with a melta type of weapon somewhere

As much as I want something to hurt land raiders (and monoliths, but that would require something else), it seems like this would be a bit much. From what I can tell, melta-style weapons are more common than they used to be (is this accurate? I only started with 5th ed, but that's what I hear) due to codex creep. Iunno. I like the idea of something to hurt vehicles besides klaws, but this seems really powerful for 15 pts, especially considering all the other gak they do.

I disagree.

First off, they're still just T4 with a 6+ save - that's really really squishy for a 15 point model.

They're still LD7, + the mob rule, but you only have to kill a couple of them before they're taking morale checks like normal since there are only 15 of them. Since they have to be close to do anything... they will take casualties, and they will take morale checks.

Because of the two reasons above, a transport for them is pretty much mandatory. Suddenly this is getting more expensive than 15 points a head.

On top of all that they compete with lootas, one of the best units in the codex, for force org slots. Burna Boyz definitely need SOMETHING to make them more competitive.

Giving burna boyz 2d6 penetration is basically making them fire dragons that can toast hordes in shooting, and rape anything in assault aswell.

If this happens, point cost would need to be 20 points or so, though orks DO have problems with AV14.

Here is my 2 cents,

A burna boy may exchange its burna for a "Kan Opena" for free (see assault marines and transports). the "kan opena" is exactly the same as a burna except it swaps the template for 2d6 penetration, and has 6" range.

sound good?

c and c welcome.

Works for me. Burnas already rock, it would have to have a higher cost to justify the bonus d6 armor penetration, though.
