Any local game store that also carries Wargames Factory products can order them from their normal distribution channels I believe. Even if more expensive I'd recommend that option if available to support local merchants.

If you don't have such an option you have a number of online retailers such as The WarStore http://www.thewarstore.com/DreamForgeGames.html or Miniature Market http://www.miniaturemarket.com/table-top-miniatures/dreamforge-games.html. There are other retailers, but those two are US-based and have a pretty good track record overall from what I've seen.

Eventually I believe DFG will also be selling them, but for the time being it's about the retailers.

The first post on this page states that Wayland Games is stocking DFG models right now...
Pretty sure they're a UK distributor / storefront.

Wayland (UK) are good, but Discount Games Store has confirmed they'll be stocking DFG lewts so I'm waiting for them to sort their stuff. DGS are US based but great for Aussies.

I've had bad experiences with Wayland, so I won't be dealing with them again.

I'll give DGS a shot, then, but shipping from the US tends to be much more expensive than from the UK.

Thanks.

I got an Ada model online and used that to do a test paint for my forthcoming Stormtroopers (arriving tomorrow from the Warstore). I really want to do a Clone Trooper color scheme. Here are some quick pics I took on my painting table. I haven't figured out what gun to give her yet.

This is mostly correct but there are details that were not in the announcement. I am not writing this to argue over the facts, clearly it was a complete disaster, and I just want to shed some light on what transpired to get us to the current state.

The reason we sent from China was not to save money… When we discussed this option the costs were higher than shipping from the US. When the USPS rate increase came into effect the shipping costs were very slightly less than shipping from the US.

We wanted the Pacific Rim to receive the delivery shortly before the US although we realized some would be at about the same time as the US depending on their location. The person checking on the delivery time was in error when it came to the estimated delivery time required and reported the wrong information to myself and China. Due to this error the delivery was not rushed out the door as it should have been if we were to meet the delivery dates that we were trying to achieve.

The second issue at play was that China did not have the shipping list as WGF needed to have all the Pacific Rim participants respond back with address corrections for those that had moved. There were five customers that did not update their shipping address promptly and this caused further delay.
China discovered the error when the packages reached the HK harbor and made the call not to ship via air due to the costs involved. This call was not made by me but it was their understanding based on the conversation with HK post that the items would ship and arrive at about the same time as most of the late US or early UK/EU shipments, they felt this was still acceptable and made an on the spot decision, in hind sight had we known how the next steps would have played out they would have bitten the bullet and shipped air.
What transpired next was the final debacle; HK post accepted the shipment after communicating the expected delivery date (which was wrong) and they promptly sat on the delivery until the start of the Chinese New Year.

We made several attempts to force the shipment or call back the shipment to re-rout via air but HK post was unable or unwilling to aid us regardless of the previous estimate that they provided.
All in all, it was a cluster f@7k, the perfect storm of misinformation and events that led to the current state.
Hind sight 20/20, we would have had WGF start getting address corrections a month earlier when the cargo container first left for the US, we would have shipped air, regardless of the costs due to the impending Chinese New Year.

The question I have now is if it is even worth sending ANYTING through HK post… due to the constant miscommunications and utter inability for them to keep to the estimates they provide I just don’t know if attempting to ship through them again is worth the issues that are created.

Thanks for your post, Mark.

Hm, so you're telling us they they were (will be) in fact shipped by surface mail? You're aware that this is the worst possible outcome for everybody? As in, 6-8 additional weeks once they actually ship? We're talking another two months, realistically. You should never send anything via surface mail, that's just basic common sense. I understand that that decision was not made by you personally, but whoever in WGF that made the decision and is trying to blame HK post for delivery time estimates sounds like they are full of gak, and made the decision purely based on saving money. Anyone in that position would have at least a basic understanding of shipping rates and times and would know that surface/sea freight literally takes months.

Shipping via HK Post is fine. My stuff that was sent last week arrived today. HK post are as competent as any other postal carrier in the world in my experience, and I've been getting multiple packages from overseas almost every week for about 5 years now.
It appears to be the WGF decision makers that are incompetent. Again, the solution is to just send stuff as soon as it's ready, and now I'll have to add never, ever send anything via surface mail.

Mark, I thank you for your openness and willingness to be honest, but this is a complete and utter mess. If this saga was coming from any retailer, I'd simply chargeback and never deal with the people involved ever again. I'm tying this completely calmly, and not as a rant. This is honest feedback.

bbb, good idea

Not totally sold on the white scheme, it's so hard to pull off... I think I would prefer it at not-quite-white (off-white) or dirtied up. But that is fast work

I'd suggest that the white may well look better with a mid-dark grey used in place of the black on the panel lines - especially at our scale. Save black only for the undersuit, and any really specific markings, such as on the helmets, visors/goggles, etc - some helmet markings that initially appear to be black are also in grey.
Also - black gloves.

I have a fireteam and Ada painted up... I have no idea what the camo pattern is called, I think I saw it on some Germans from ww2, once. I'll be posting pictures this weekend.

Aside from that, I'm stuck at the "what to do" stage with the Leviathan. The structure is all built, complete with weapons, it's been painted a dark metallic colour, brushed with irridescent silver from liquitex (so translucent it barely shows :() Will benefit from a translucent silver/white mix as a final brush and then weathering on pistons. But I am in a total bind as to the armour colour. I do not want to go another metallic shade. I was thinking burnt cadmium red, but I'm afraid it would be too dark.

Would camo look too goofy on gothic-style armour like that? Methinks it would. Would a mix of blue-gray and orange be too reminescent of an X-Wing...

You tease, Mathieu!

I think camo would look goofy on a Leviathan, but I'm eager to have someone else try it out so I can decide for sure (I think a skilled painter can pull camo off on anything, but that these wouldn't lend themselves to it).

It depends on whether you want it to look like a 40k (or WarMachine)-style war machine, replete with heraldry, bright(ish) colours and so forth

- or like a realistic war machine, with muted colours or camo, weathering, and all the rest. Maybe additional stowage.

I'd recommend that you check out some Battletech Mech galleries to see how camo schemes and schemes using non-camo colours can look on giant robots before making a final decision.

Is there a line-art image of the Leviathan anywhere? Something similar to the "Space Marine" pic we all see so often? Something like that might be a really useful resource for people in deciding how to paint their $100 Levis.

I could see one of these looking really nice in weathered dunkelgelb (german desert yellow)

I just have to mention how impressed I am with the heavy weapon kits. They are just insanely packed to the brim with cool bits, it hardly all fits onto the base! I actually went with less troopers on each base, two for the mortar and AT gun and just the one guy for the AA gun, leaving me with an extra 12 men! (I got three sets). There are some very fiddly bits involved, especially the ammo crates but I personally find fiddly to be more fun, lets you spend more time with the model!

I felt bad teasing you guys, so I took a few pictures, I'm only posting the good ones though...

Dark Yellow base, with Red Brown and Khakli Drab splotches, Sand and Black dots. The first three colours are Tamiya, the last two are a mix & basic acrylic paint. The lighting is too yellow, I know, I still have to figure a proper picture taking rig that I can reasonably leave in place and not have to set up/break down every night.

CC welcome. But be nice about the wording, there was a fight in my class today, I'm in a terrible mood.

Agreed on the color advice here Azazel. I keep wanting to call you Scipio...

I intend to do a very thin black oil wash over mine once it gets time for painting. Probably base them with a light grey too, and then just highlight with pure white. Going to have to experiment on a few junk figures before I put paint to these.

Those look very good Mathieu. It looks like a combination of German Ambush and Fall pea-dot camo.

I think they could benefit from a wash to delineate the armor sections, like a GW sepia or similar. Not all over, but just around the armor lines.

I am goingto be doing my Leviathan in camo. When I get around to it I'll put pics up.

I was also debating adding some limited washes in deeper grooves. I'll try on one first.

My fiancee still thinks that a solid Dark Yellow, with weathering, and damage, would be ideal. But then I'd have to paint so form of unit ID and, of course, a pin-up, to break it up a bit.

Moar pictures. I took the Rifleman and gave him washes in the deeper recesses with Agrax Earthshade.

ONe picture is with Incandescent + Fluocompact bulb, the other two are only with the latter.

CC welcome. I've mellowed out a bit under the paintbrush's ministrations. Very zen.

They're coming along nicely. I like the camo.

If I can offer some C&C, it would be to crop the images closer to the models - just makes them easier to see (and yes, I know we can click them). Try painting the weapons in a darker shade of desert yellow if you're after a more modern look. Maybe even a test model.

Also, the Panzerfaust looks a bit odd with the gunmetal warhead. IRL, they were painted all in one colour.

Finally, it'd probably be worth picking out the "stormtrooper frown" that they have. Just a thin wash lining of mid-dark brown would do the trick and make the detail stand out nicely if you prefer not to wash the whole figure. If you want to get really into it, paint the soles of their boots on figures where they're exposed (like kneeling guy) in a mid-dark brown.

Mark said that Leviathan's are the Iron Core Universes equivalent of World War 1 Fighter (or 'Pursuit' as they were then called) planes, with 'ace pilots' having their own unique heraldry, etc.

Keeping that piece of info in mind, I plan on painting mine up in a scheme suited for a World War 1 fighter ace, definitely getting some 'nose art' on there too, though I've been contemplating then 'overpainting' certain areas with a camo scheme , to make it look like it was hurriedly field applied.

P.S. - Mark, your acolytes and disciples are awaiting you on the Dreamforge forums. Bunches of questions and stuff popping up that you have the only real answers to!

It doesn't quite show, but I did a thin line of wash on the lower rim of the helmet, I'll have to give it another coat (I'd rather do less than more at first.

And for the record, no metallics were used. I don't have a pot of Dark Yellow at home (I know, I only bought the spray and realized it at home. I can only get Tamiya far, far away so it'll have to wait) But I mixed Averland Sunset with English Uniform, it is slightly like the darker gun in your second picture.

The sole... man I should have caught that. It's been a rough week. Fixed this morning.

And yes, I could have cropped the picture but like I said, I was only going to do it on saturday, but I didn't want to be a tease, and it was late... throw the man a bone! On a serious note, I've been having problems taking close-ups with my camera lately. I think it has to do with age... I'm not as stable as I used to be. Do those little gorilla tripods still exist?

I think camo could look really great if done right.. maybe have the arms and legs be a solid color, and camo just on the armory parts?

Finished building mine last night..going to go for a rusted look with desert yellowish armor. I figured out after the fact that I probably should have left the armor plates off and painted them separately.. oh well.

I like the stormtroopery white look too for the men, but I'll probably do all of mine in the same deserty scheme.
