Hello,
Here's some photos of the Leviathan Crusader I recently completed. I haven't had so much fun building a model in a long while, it really is quite a kit. Beautifully engineered, cleverly laid out on the sprues, and amazing tolerances on some tight fits.

I went for a color scheme and heraldry close to the box art, although I shifted the color a bit toward the traditional color of Krupp artillery from the late 1800s.

I'm looking forward to seeing the next wave of Dreamforge releases, these are some seriously cool sets.

I'm excited about this kit. Our LGS owner has bought one, an extra shooty arm, and the enhanced cooling pack.

I really like your scheme. It reminds me of space pups.

Nice paintjob. I have the kit as well and it is very fun to put together. One of the most thought out kits I have put together.

Fantastic weathering and distressing of the paint there. What technique did you use?

The supply does not get to make the demands.

That's some of the best rust/weathering I've ever seen.

Your weathering is impeccable...and it looks very natural on the model. Definitely gives it an aged and ancient look. Your photography also really brings out the best of your paintwork. amazing work and model!

Thanks for the comments all, its appreciated. The weathering and rust is a combination of AK Interactive "Heavy Chipping Effect" and freehand work with burnt umber and sienna colored paints. I use a variety of GW, Vallejo, craft paint, Coat d'Arms, Reaper, Secret Weapon. I grab whatever is closest

The Chipping Effect is interesting stuff. This is the first time I tried it, it clearly works really well but it needs to be applied with an airbrush and the second coat needs to be timed just right or it won't work predictably. I did two things after this project that chipped too heavily, or not enough.

Rust stains from rain etc. are mostly done with AK Interactive Rust Wash:

There's some other washes (GW, Secret Weapon) and opaque painting too. The best advice I can give is to walk or drive around and look at rusty things
I've become a fanatic about it, when I went to the county fair a week ago my wife and kid were looking at the rides, I was looking at the scrapes and rusting on the surfaces

The 'Hairspray and Salt' method works really well for weathering and rust too, although I didn't use that method on this model.

I'll likely be doing a tutorial at some point.

Thanks again!

Hello,
Pics of the Leviathan Mortis I painted for Wargames Factory, previewed at GenCon.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hello,
Images of the 15mm Leviathan Crusader by Dreamforge and Wargames Factory. This kit is a absolutely fantastic translation of the large version.

The color balance is a little off, I used the Dakka autoadjust this time and it oversaturated all the red and rust.

This one includes a 15mm 'Sci-fi german' from Eureka Miniatures.

Dr. Mathias I was wondering if you could tell me how tall the 15mm leviathan is? I am thinking of useing it as a proxy dreaknight and I wanted to know which would work better, the 28 or 15 mm version.

I think the 15mm scale Crusader was 4.25 inches high from the base to the top of the carapace. It's possible to make him slightly higher or lower.

A lot of people took comparison pics at GenCon- the Mortis and 15mm were displayed on the same table, and feel like someone (maybe Mark) mentioned that he had a WGF employee take a pic with a trooper, a 15mm, and a full size Leviathan. I suspect they will be cropping up soon. I should have done a photo of the three together but I ran out of time and didn't think about it until it was too late.

I suspect the 15mm will be the best Dreadknight proxy- I think I read on a pre-order form at the WGF booth that the 15mm will be $59 retail.

4.55" to the top of the shoulder when fully erect the base is about .25" tall

Here is a scale comp with one on my Stormtroopers.

Thanks so much for the info guys! I think the 15mm will defintiely be the best proxy in this case. I'll just have to come up with some excuse to buy both as the full size is just too pretty to not be on my shelf!

Just wanted to drop by and say thank you Matt for the incredible work on the kits! They are all lovely but the Mortis (being my first resin kit from this design) is a long time fave for me... and that cast iron look is sooooooo schweeet!

Finally finished up a Dreamforge Eisenkern character I've had on the table for a few months

Eisenkern Stormtrooper body, a Puppet's War Confederate head, and two pistols by Reaper. Not sure what I'm going to use him for, but it had to be done!

Everything on this thread is awesome (but reminds me I have 3 heavy weapon teams and 17 stormtroopers unassembled...).

The gunslinger, though, is just too damn cool.
