The scene from the shining were the boy is riding around the hotel on his bike. It's the sound of it going over boards and then he sees the twins.... it does me harm thinking of it.

Thanks,

Alien was wonderful, but I didn't see that as a kid.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Creature from the Black Lagoon got me. Forbidden Planet made me think too much.

Aliens and Jaws when I was little. Also I saw "fire in the sky" and it creeped me out too.
The Ring, Event Horizon, The Exorcist are awesome movies that creep me out but will still watch them for fun.
There was a movie about a kid who wakes up in the middle of the night and sees his parents taken away by aliens or something, never saw it again but wow my childhood would have been happier if I didn't see that.

Several of these already mentioned int he thread, but for some not mentioned: probably the original Night of the Living Dead. It was so well done and creepy.

Since I am so weak, I haven't even bothered to watch very many scary/horror movies. Plus TorturePorn does not interest/amuse me.
This. What happened to the psychological horror films like Silence of the Lambs, where you found yourself shifting uncomfortably in your seat as a man in a cell discussed an FBI agents shoes....

Man, seeing some of the yawn fests you guys are/were afraid of makes me think quite a few of you are pansies.
Okay, I can see the Ring being scary the first couple times. Alien? Absolutely-also friggin awesome. Silence of the lambs? Keep meaning to watch it, and I doubt I'll be disappointed. Jaws? No. The Shining? Feth no, that sucked horrible donkey balls. Exorcist? 20 years ago, yes. Now? Hell no.
Hell, Deep Blue Sea was scarier than Jaws, and they ate LL Cool J's bird!!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I also saw Jaws at an age where I wasn't ready for it and hated swimming in the sea for quite a few years as a kid.
Also +1 the American version of The Ring, particularly as I always found when I turned the bedroom light off at night there'd be some sort of after glow on the TV tube making it lighter than it's surroundings....yeah....
There's a film called Sanctum, which is I guess an adventure/drama, but I actually found that pretty uncomfortable viewing, because when real life nature doesn't go your way, it can really feth you over. (The acting etc is fairly ropey though).

None of my friends have seen this, but it was probably the scariest newish movie I've seen in the last 5 years or so. My wife will to this day get sincerely angry if I say "Mr. Boogie".
Sinister Trailer
As for older movies, if I let enough time transpire between viewings, the original Alien and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre are still scary.
Although not horrifying, I still get a kick out of In the Mouth of Madness, Lord of Illusions, and Event Horizon.
And Jacob's Ladder still creeps me out.
