Hey guys, I'm just starting to get into this game. I was looking through some of the new streams that has been popping up and decided to pick this as a hobby. I saw the Eldar army and they looked really cool but I kind of like the Tau army more so I decided to play with them. I'm here to ask you what would you give start points to a new player like me? I have no units so having someone suggest me what I should start off with would be greatly appreciate. Money isn't much of a problem right now since I started working again but I have around $300 to use on whatever. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks in advance.

If you are absolutely certain that this is the army you want (its a big deal as you don't want to spend $100+ and then decide you don't want those models anymore) then the best place to start is always the battleforce box. It gives you a good idea of the different units of the army and how you enjoy making them all/which you enjoy more. From there I suggest getting 3 more things, probably after you have maybe 50% of the first box painted but that is just me. The three things would be-
A transport. Mobility is VERY important and this is one type you want to learn early on
A leader. Buy some kind of HQ you like to get a true proper start to your army. It doesn't much matter what you go with, as long as you like it. You can worry about which ones will be effective after you start learning the game more, and you can make the one you REALLY like when your skills are better and you will be more proud of it (In the end, you could end up with the same three HQ's, but that's not important)
Lastly, get one unit, maybe something that doesn't fit under what we already talked about, but it could be if you want. The important thing is that is something you want. This will keep the army my along the lines of how you want it to be, for your pleasure and satisfaction.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

A good idea is to buy the Codex, a Riptide, and tbe Battleforce. This should give you a solid core. From there, decide what you like.

Tips:
Build the Riptide with an Ion Accelerator. The HBC is basically worthless except against flyrant spam with VT.
Give the Suits all one weapon, for example 6x Missile Pods, 6x Burstcannons, ect...
Don't give the suits all flamers. It makes DSing and shooting almost imposible.
Use one of the Suits as a Battlesuit Commander, at least until you can get the actual model or more suits to convert one.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Hi! I would get the Battleforce as it is an amazing deal, the Codex and some Elite/Heavy choice (Hammerhead/Riptide/Sunshark Bomber e.t.c). This will give you a fairly strong and fun army to start off with. Hope this helps
