Hey there experts,
my Mars 3 Pro worked flawlessly for a year, since this morning however, it produces a high pitched screeching noise when starting to print and only prints the first layer, then stops. It doesn't lift the bed and still keeps on screeching and whining...
I recalibrated, all ok. VAT, FEP film and resin also clean and OK.
If I remove the bed and move the crane (?) manually, it moves fine and without any noise...
Has anyone had a similar issue or any idea what this could be?
The machine is just over a year old, I don't know if stuff like mainboard etc. can already be defect and if such things can be fixed at all.
While I got a lot of mileage out of it, it would be quite a bummer if a printer only lasts so shortly...

Thanks guys!

You could go though these steps, to get at the motor:
https://www.elegoo.com/en-gb/blogs/3d-printer-user-guide/elegoo-mars-pro-replace-the-z-axis-motor
Because there is a page about it, it must be a thing. Even reseating cables and connector might be enough to get it going again.

The crane is the Z axis which is run by a stepper motor in the printer.

Now if its making a high pitched whining sound I wonder if your Zrod just needs cleaning and greasing.

I would clean it with a cloth, make sure there's o gunk on it and then use some white lithium grease to lubricate the rod. You can use a spray if you want, but you have to cup some cloth around the area so that the spray doesn't splatter over everything and the spray won't typically last as long as a grease.

You can use other kinds, white lithium is just affordable and popular.

If that doesn't resolve the issue the next step would be to ensure that there's no data issues (unlikely but you never know). So I'd change to a new USB of decent quality (eg sandisk) or at least reformat the one you have (fat 32).

After that it might be a mechanical issue - eg the stepper motor might be damaged or the nut inside the Zarm that runs up and down the Zrod.

Thanks guys!
I smothered the rod in WD40 and got the machine to print two loads without failure... but it still sounds odd. Too loud and shrill, but not as bad as before.
Maybe I'll get to opening it up and clean the hidden parts, but that might do more harm then good with my technical skills
I'll have a look into the guide posted above and see what can be done.
While I'd prefer having no issues at all, I must say, I'm fascinated by the amount of tinkering and replacing you can do with such an item...
