I've been working on coverting a lot of the figs from the Black Reach set as well as getting some of my odds and ends together that aren't being used in a current army. I decided to try at the Black Templars since I like their rules and their minis.

The idea behind these guys, is that they're from a world with a fealty/caste system, knights and what not, so their armor has an austere look to it, with little decoration and plain robes in the color of their ruling class (purple).

Back to the SM. Really good concept exectued well. The paintjob is done smoothly, if in need of a few minor bits (as everybody says "washes are your friends")
Some highlighting, or dry brushing would really bring out some of the detail

I really like the robed crusaders, those DA legs really have come in handy and they totally make the look go

Those are pretty cool man. Nice work. My only gripe, is either drill the barrels out, or paint a black circle on the end so it shows where the rounds actually come out lol.

See, the thing is, I can't have anything that's got 'Knights' in the title.

I already have a Salamander successor chapter called the Gila Knights that are orange and black (like the leezard).

Ok I'm going to try this a different way. Most people on here think I'm mean so I'll try to do this so it's not so mean. I think it is our job to be honest with people on here. So I am being honest when I say your paint jobs are less then table top quality. Ok now that that is over lets move onto how to make your models table top quality.

Drybrushing is the way to go. The basics to it is you want 3 different shades of the same color. For you we'll do the following.

Base the model in black, dry brush dark chrome and then after it dries use a slightly lighter chrome color, then a light coat of shiny chrome. This does two things.
1. Adds depth.
2. Highlights raised areas.

Both of these are good.

Now for your purple. Again you start out with a dark purple, then put some white in it for the second coat, and then put some more white in for the third coat.

Onto the accent colors. You have used red. You need to shade this also. I'd go a dark red to a light red.

Your bases. If you have seen any of my posts on bases you will know that yours are naked. You only have rocks on them and they are painted a funny color. They don't look like ground. I suggest a different color and to add some bigger rocks on some and grass flocking on all of your bases. Make the bases just as good as you would the rest of the model.

I hope that helps. I'm not being mean. I just don't want people telling you that it's great when it's not. We should be here to help eachother become better painters. Not just say everyone paints great.

I wonder if the inks I used are what's throwing the lighting off, I actually did base black and double layer drybursh the metallics. The robes are two purples with a black wash on top and the red accents have been red ink'd for lighting effects.

As for their basing, that's GW sand...my pictures make it look like they're standing in cornmeal.

What? im sorry but you have highlighting completely wrong.
Prime black, Paint metals with dark colour then drybrush with a LIGHTER colour to leave the dark in the shadows and the lighter bits on the raised bits.
Then if the recesses arnt shadowed enough use watered down ink or washes to darken it further.

Agreeing with corpsesarefun, thats not exactly the way you highlight. I guess it might work but the best and easiest way is just to drybrush light over dark.

Correction, it was early in the morning where I am. Yes go dark then light. I had it right in the purple example. Don't know where my head was on the first part.
