I am soon going to start working on a chaos army. I have never actually played a SM army all that much so my exp with them is limit. I plan to start out with a 1500 point list as thats what I ussualy play at. Now the questions.
(side note. I plan to have the army based around nurgle. Depending on if I will go mech or use plague mariens or just run marked marines will be determend later)
1. At 1500 points How many troop choices should be taken?(footsloggers/mech
2. Going all mech means there are a few more kill points on the board. Is this a huge disadvantage or can it be over come?
3. Is doing a mix of foot sloggers and mech possible? Or would the lower # of rhinoes rolling around just mean they are gunne get poped by 2nd turn.
4. Oblits? deepstrike or no deepstrike?
5. Termies? Deepstrike or LR?

I like to run 3 squads of 7 plague marines for nurgle, or 3 squads of 10 regular marines. Maybe a squad or two of berzerkers. Get 2 or 3 rhinos and CHAAAARGEE!! as far as mechs go idk i dont really use em that much:(

1. Typically what you see is at least 1 squad per every 500 pts. The more the better though.
2.No it can be overcome you just have to be sure not to let your rhinos sit to be popped easily and do NOT forget about your smoke launchers when being in the open is necessary.
3. Dont do this best to do one or the other for the reason you stated because even if you move 12" with only two rhinos on the table and both are fired at 50/50 chance you lose your transport for something that needs to be moving.
4. Depends on the situation it works sometimes others not so much. Expensive loss for a mishap table roll.
5. One word TERMICIDES. Best to run these guys in a 3-5 man squad all with combimeltas nothing else and these guys you definitely want to deepstrike. No marks or anything else just combimeltas. You want this squad to DS in as close to a tank as close as possible.

1. Yes, 1 for each 500, so for 1500 = 3. Troops are the backbone of the CSM army and are the winners of most games.
2. It is a balance...the oppurtunity cost of being 1 KP is a laundry list of uses for the Rhino other than getting your guys closer to get some KP's from the opponent.
3. It's possible, you just need to give the unmech squad a clear role.
4. I don't use that option alot. I use it only when my opponent has a rhino wall and something to hide behind it.
5. Termicides deepstrike, combat termies would like a Raider, but combat termies+raider (IMO) is questionable to begin with.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I think CSM have some of the best troops, so I say 4 if you can. Termicide is the way to go for them and for oblits I usually don't DS them.
