whats the best way to field a I.G. army full o' tanks, chimeras, etc, or should i just stick to a mostly man-cannon army?

CCS in Chimera.
Vets in Chimeras.
Leman Russes.

Select special weapons as you deem fit, but remember not to mix them in squads.

I hate to say it but this has been discussed to death since the codex came out and a simple 'search' wuld have revealed far more in depth information than that which I've posted above.

or a basic break down would be

CCS - plasma

psyker battle squad

vets- meltas
vets-meltas
vets-plasma
vets-plasma
all of the above gointo chimeras

vets-grenade launchers/flamers
vets-grenade launchers/flamers
these two go in valks/vendettas

and as for heavies i still like
russ
executioner
demolisher

but i've heard alot of good things about the manticore rocket launcher but i have to say that artillery really limits move ment as you have to leave someone back to defend it from deep strike where if you use demolishers they can lead the charge and present a difficult AV 14 to the enemie while screening your chimeras

alternitively you could go for a third vet squad in one of the valks/vendettas

if you set them up as close as possible then scout move then on turn one you have a very realistic chance of popping some av14 with your melta guns

p.s. i have not writen a list just an idea of units but i'm sure you'd know how to load each one of these out

There are several ways to field an IG army sucessfully; they are rather versitile. I would go as far as to say that you can field an IG army like an Ork army, Keep the heavy support choices and bigg guns up front whilst you have vets and eletes in transports; shooting out the windows to keep nice, warm, cozy, and most of all: safe. Off to either sides you could have snipper/scouts protecting some footslogging spam; whist the snippers keep'em pined, the guardsmen could mop up what your hulking pormethium war machine leaves behind.
