Just curious, has anyone ever tried converting/making some sort of "wood eldar"? A sort of resemblance of the wood elves from WHF. But in the form of 40k, using earth tones and greens for a color scheme. I know they try to distance 40k and WHF, but I have always had this idea of making a wood eldar, outcast/skirmishing/ranger kind of army. Also, on a side note, would it be more viable to make it using dark eldar? Just trying to get some opinions on this.

Yes, the Wood Eldar are called Exodites in 40k and present in the background since the 2nd edition Codex. Here a 3rd edition fan-made Codex: http://www.agisn.de/html/codex_exodites.html . You will find many modelling projects, if you search under Exodites.

You need to research Exodite Eldar. These are planet borne Eldar that do not come from the Craftworlds. If I remember correctly they left before the Fall. They are exactly what you're talking about if I understand you correctly. If you can get a copy of the 2nd Eldar Codex you should find some fluff in there. Also ask on the background forum here on Dakka. I'm sure plenty of the guys will remember far more than me about them.

hmm, I feel stupid for even posting this now... What is the chances or viability that someone would play my "Exodite" army? Not in an official tourney, but just something at the local store.

Pretty good chance I would have thought. It may have to be a heavy 'counts as' army but if I came across a similar army I would love to play it. Its something different and if your opponent understands anything about this hobby they should jump at the chance.

BTW don't feel silly cos believe me you got a lot of work to do and you're going to need a lot more help and input to get this concept to a playable 5th edition army.

Yeah I hastily bought into an ork army when I got to thinking about it I realized I really didn't want to play a horde army, and wanted to be able to put more individual conversions per model, and doing that with a horde army would just play hell with me.

Lol, yeah horde armies can be tough going conversion wise but you might be surprised at the crazy things you can conjure with a little orky thinkin.

The Exodites are actually a fantastic style for the Eldar; I've seen some very well executed (if difficult to accept rules-wise ) jetbikes as exodites on cold ones. As a matter of fact, Behind th Mask has some very well executed Exodites here on dear ole Dakka;

Great inspiration, I think.

Oi... tell me about it...

As a very ambitious greenskin player, I wanted an entire army of special theme, heavily converted orks... With a lot of free handing. Seriously, a lot of free handing.
After painting the first 10 out of 100, I realized it was going to take ma a lot longer than I thought...

I am committed, though. I have dreamed about this army since I was a broke teenager in high school, and now I am actually doing it. That alone is worth spending 3-5 hours per boy...
