I had a game today and it was against Orks. A unit of Nobs were approaching my lines, and obviously I wanted to steer clear of that truck. So, I moved my unit back and then proceeded to take a pot shot at the Nobs.

While taking the shot I measured the distance with my Storms Bolters and read it at 21 inches. The next turn the Ork player calls his WAAGH and charges at me, and while moving his units he assaults me, deeming that he was in range.

That isn't possible though.... considering he only rolled a 5 for fleet is not important because he can get a max of 18 inches from a WAAGH assault correct?

Being that I don't really want to start rules squabbles at a gaming group I joined I let it all go (and I had to go home it was dinner time). I just thought about it on the drive home and was wondering what other people do in this situation and I'd kind of like to hear other people's stories about it. Should I have said something, I always feel dirty being a rules stickler.


On a side note, the game went to a draw because 10 Terminators couldn't stand against two huge Ork units (that both assaulted me due to the above scenario). Still one of the most fun games I've played in a long time.

OK, I'm a bit confused. You mention a truck "steer clear of that truck", were they in the truck?
If they were on foot, yeah, there is no way I can think of that they can move/run/assault 21". Personally, I call people on that kind of BS. Point out that the range from when I just shot at you, might even mention the range when I do the shooting as I'd kinda be expecting the Waaagh and assault bit, you know, just make an off-hand comment about how they are out of assault range even with the Waaagh.

/Sigh.

I meant truck as 'something big going to hit me' not at all remembering Orks actually have a unit named 'Truck'

Was your closest model 21 away or your farthest model 21 away? It makes a huge different. But yeah, if your closest model was 21 away and the nobz were on foot call him out on those shenanigans. Bad measuring ruins the game for everyone.
