Hey all, making my first Eldar list with the units I plan to buy very soon. I want to play mech Eldar for a start, and that's what I tried to go for in this. I'm two points over in both lists that I'm about to provide, and I'd like comments and critique on my list as well. The thing I do know is that I'm very short on troops...

Alright, I'd love some advice / critique, if you have any to offer. Got better units for me to get in mind? Tell me.

Writing internet fiction is kind of like throwing out messages in bottles into a churning sea composed entirely of messages in bottles, the chances of of your message getting noticed and someone being sent out to rescue you is punishingly slim. But every once in a blue moon, someone who owns a big boat made of money finds your message and agrees to let you ride on his big boat made of money as long as you keep making messages for him.

Because Matt Ward didn't write our Codex. Otherwise we would have had Scything Tyrants with Scything Nidfists that can re-roll re-rolls and that can have a bodyguard of 10 Scything Guards and a Scything Prime that could ride in a Scything Pod. Or something to that effect.

If you're going full mech eldar, and plan to bump the list up to higher points totals later, don't bother with the mini seer council. If you really really like the farseer, then keep him. (I think he is nice, but when you don't get those powers off it really hurts your battle plan, and with the rise of psychic powers, I think people are going to bring more psychic defense, so until eldar get redone and get super awesome abilities, I would learn to play without depending on him) I would just go with a minimum Autarch and spend those point elsewhere. He also gives you the nice option of reserving the army when you face someone that has a big alpha strike.

2 units of 5 fire dragons rather than 1 big one. You are not going to even need 5 meltaguns in most cases, so just take the minimum unit and you will kill whatever you shoot at anyway.

Eldar have quite durable (if expensive) transports, that can pump out quite a bit of firepower on their own- so use them. Don't ever plan to get your dire avengers out unless their transport is blown up. Take minimum units of them and just think of them as an 'upgrade' to the tank to make it scoring. You will also appreciate having more scoring units.

All the upgrades on the tanks are cool and all, and while you may think they are needed... they aren't. The only upgrades I would take on eldar tanks are the underslung shuriken cannon (always take this) and holo-fields on falcons.

Lots and lots of dakka. You're pumping out quite an absurd about of S6 shots for transports and infantry, you have the fire dragons for anything bigger that the S6 can't handle, and you pick up another scoring unit. I personally like the falcons (if you keep them cheap enough) over the fire prisms solely because they can pick up your dire avengers if their forced out of their wavesperent. But this is a personal choice, and if you prefer the fire prism, that's fine as well.

as a side note, make sure to magnetize your grav tanks weaponry! You won't regret it, and will love the flexibility when you change/upscale your list.

I am suprised to find someone that actually says Falcons and cannon upgrades are ok. My first list had things like these and dark reapers. I got insulted by everyone but politely.
On low point games all my extra tanks kill marines real good that includes termies and dreads.

10 points for another 3 s6 shots is really really good, but you have to remember to skimp on the other upgrades. The falcons generally aren't that good because people like to load up upgrades on them and make them very expensive. Keep them cheap, and later when you have more points put the ONLY shuriken cannon and holofields on, and keep them at range, in cover if possible, and they will be a really big pain to bring down. You can also buy just minimum dire avenger squads and put them in the falcon to make it scoring and hold your back objectives.

You have to play smart with the list though, because the shuriken cannons make you want to play up close-- don't. Just barely skirt 24" the whole game, and you will be good, get those side shots and rip them up with silly amount of shots you have.
