Subject: Dust Bunnies - A 1,500 point pure Thousand Sons list

In honor of me purchasing Graham McNeill's A Thousand Sons (Read up to chapter five so far, so no spoilers please) I thought I'd once again attempt to come up with a vaguely viable Thousand Sons list to actually play in 40K.
Now, any list that restricts itself to being a 'pure' Thousand Sons list is always going to skew towards the casual side of the casual/competitive gamer equilibrium, but I'd liek to make it as competitive as humanly possible while remaining within the strictures of fluff for Magnus' Legion.
Here's the list:
HQ
Chaos Sorcerer (Zarathushtra)
Mark of Tzeentch
Warptime
Bolt of Change
180
Troops 1
Aspiring Sorcerer (Ohrmuzd)
8 Thousand Sons (Dust in the Wind)
Bolt of Change
Chaos Rhino
Extra Armour
319
Troops 2
Aspiring Sorcerer (Ahura)
8 Thousand Sons (Cities in Dust)
Warptime
Chaos Rhino
Extra Armour
319
Troops 3
Aspiring Sorcerer (Visprad)
8 Thousand Sons (Another One Bites The Dust)
Bolt of Change
Chaos Rhino
Pintle-Mounted Combi-Flamer
Extra Armour
329
Heavy Support 1
Chaos Predator (Revelation)
Heavy Bolter Sponsons
100
Heavy Support 2
Chaos Predator (Epiphany)
Heavy Bolter Sponsons
100
Heavy Support 3
Chaos Vindicator (Unveiled)
Daemonic Possession
145
Total 1492 Points
Is this a hopelessly futile task?

Bolt of Change is subpar on the Aspiring Sorcerers. A single S8 shot isn't going to do much against tanks. I'd take Doombolt on them to better augment your Shooty Sons, and use the extra points to buy something that can kill tanks, be it Obliterators, a Defiler, or Lascannons on a Predator.
Also, a DP is the same price as a Sorcerer (10 more points base, but the Mark costs 10 less), and is almost universally better. The Sorc does fit better fluff-wise. (For me, the DP actually fits better - Prince Janus is leading a force of Thousand Sons hunting down Ahriman, so he's not as averse to mutation.)
My 1500 point list, for comparison:
Daemon Prince 180 Mark of Tzeentch, Wings, Wind of Chaos
Sorcerer 70 Doombolt
8x Thousand Son 184
Rhino 35
Sorcerer 70 Doombolt
8x Thousand Son 184
Rhino 35
Sorcerer 70 Doombolt
8x Thousand Son 184
Rhino 35
Obliterator 75

I go back and forth on the Daemon Prince vs. Sorcerer thing. Sorcerers seem more appropriately Thousand Sons but I'm open to persuasion. (Also, I have the idea of using Ushabti bitz to convert up a DP model)
Obliterators are sadly right out, as this is supposed to be a pure Thousand Sons army, and Obliterators are not now, or have ever been part of the Thousand Sons legion.

Yeah, same. 2 Ushtabi Falcons (Janus has, naturally, 2 heads), one DP, one Lord of Change and a whole lot of green stuff. Going to be an interesting conversion fo' sho'. I mentioned the DP because it would give the army some extra anti-armor, which it desperately needs, although there are other ways of getting it. Also, wings on your HQ are made of win - Warptime and Wind don't do anything if you're not in range.
On the Oblits, I have another convenient fluff modification. Since Janus is pretty much ransacking the galaxy looking for Ahriman, he's going to be killing a lot of people with a lot of tech on the way. It's a mutually beneficial agreement between him and the Oblit Cult. Lascannon Preds are a good, and some would say superior substitute.

Chaplaingrabthar, You list will kill the crap out of infantry. I mean completely blow them off the table. All of those Predator shells, and the 24-48 inferno bolts + doombolts in each round of shooting are going to scour the earth free of anything that uses feet to get around.
It is going to have some trouble with vehicles, though.
That one Bolt of Change, and single Demolisher cannon are pretty much the only thing that you have going for you if you need to kill a trukk or two, so you may want to look into that.
If you peel that extra armor off of your rhinos you can upgrade one of your Preds to lascannons, or turn it into another Vindicator. Either will help with your lack of anti-tank, you need to decide if you want to do it from your deployment zone, or from mid-field.

The only thing I would change is the bolt of change on the !k sons. As as the guy above me has said. One str 8 shot isnt gunna help that much. Plus you want your 1k sons to be shooting every turn if possible.
Something else you could do is use gift of chaos on your sorc as it helps off set the low model count. Plus it can help get rid of the models that really need to be dead. ICs Heavy weapon teams ext ext. Plus if the mission is KP you can always just have them turn into mush instead of a spawn. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and +2 cool points for making a fluff list and sticking to it!

Gift is pointless. If the thing that needs to die is within 6" and has T5 or less, it's going to be getting lit up by AP3 bolter shots.
