Hello there brothers in service to the Emperor. I just joined a Warhammer 40k Escalation league at my FLGS. This is my first time playing 40k. I played Fantasy for a little while and decided i wanted to try 40k out and this would be a very good way to go about it. Well anyways I just wanted to share my story's and my lists here. To get feedback from some more seasoned players. This league is going to last 6 months. We start next month in November.

The Restrictions for Month 1 are.
250 Points. You may reduce Troop squad size to 5 models. Your Sergeants May be used as HQ choices. You are only required to Have 1 Troop Choice. You may only take 1 Elite, Fast Attack, Or Heavy Support choice.

So right I have made 2 lists. The Top list is the one that I am going to use unless someone talks me out of it.

250 Points--
Vet Squad ........................................................ 95 points
x1 Plasma Gun
x1 Heavy Weapon (Auto Cannon )

Vet Squad ............................................................155 Points
x3 Melta Gun
Chimera Transport

I figure my Vet squad with the plasma gun and Las Cannon will be stationary somewhere in cover or with a good fireing range and be able to rain hell down on the big units my opponents bring. My Chimera will be used aggressively. Since I am not sure my opponents will be expecting Armor used against them. If they do have a way to break it open easy I will focus my firepower on that unit.

250 Points List 2
Platoon Command Squad ............................................95 Points
Medi Pack, Vox Caster, Plasma gun, Platoon Standard

Infantry Squad ............................................................60 Points
Melta

Heavy Weapon Squad .................................................95 Points
x1 Auto Cannon
x2 Las Cannon

I figure this will be played as a Spray and Pray. List trying to burn them down as they come in toward me.

Edited To Fix over point limit caught by Blacksails.

Changed Las HW team on List 1 to to a AutoCannon

Here they found real war, but they were not ready for it. They were used to easy victories. This deprived them of flexibility on the one hand, of tenacity on the other. For them, war was merely maneuvers. They have neither cavalry nor skiers, their tanks cannot pass over the snow.- General Zhukov

Both lists look good at this point level. I'm personally a fan of list 1, but you miscalculated the points. The first vet squad would be 105pts, putting you 10 over (vet squad is 70, plasma is 15, and lascannon is 20).

Autocannon's are 10 points, right? You could downgrade the lascannon to an autocannon and I think you would still be as effective (if not more so).

Yeah i'll edit the list, I didn't notice the 10 point overdraft, Thanks for pointing it out. Autocannon would work instead of the las cannon.

IG are a good choice for this format. I would hate to try this with Vanilla Marines, that would be harsh.

SW or BA would probably have a somewhat easier time.

I'd almost be willing to field two chimeras with two vet squads and no upgrades. Be fun anyways.

Going off of list number 2, foot guard would be good if you did something like a power blob. I'd take a PCS with 3 Plasma guns, and two infantry squads with powersword sergeants, meltabombs, and a commissar with power sword. Comes flush to 250pts. But then again, I have an aversion to heavy weapons teams due to cost and they force you to not move.

so, you're thinking well, but you're not thinking killer.

for list one, I'd do something more like this:

Vet Squad
- x3 Melta Gun
Chimera Transport
- Hull heavy flamer, turret heavy bolter, hunter killer missile

Hydra
- hunter killer missile

For list two, I'd do something more like:

PCS 3x melta, meltabombs

PIS flamer, power weapon, meltabombs
- commissar, power weapon
PIS flamer, power weapon, meltabombs

In the first list, take advantage of the fact that you only need one troops choice by bringing some heavy support or something. In the second, you're probably going to need commissars to run infantry viably at this points level.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
