First off, let me first thank everyone who visits and enjoys Dakka. We appreciate the unique facets that each person brings to our ever growing community. Without the content you all provide for each other, the site would not be absolutely nothing, so let me say again: Thanks for all you do to support Dakka simply by visiting, posting, etc!
However, if any of you are interested in helping to support Dakka beyond posting content, there are a number of things you can do to help support the site, with some of them being really simple things that don't require much (if any) additional effort on your part.
1) SHOP AT WAYLAND BY VISITING THEIR SITE THROUGH THIS BANNER
Wayland Games is pretty cool in that they have an affiliate program. Anyone who visits their site by clicking on this banner and then goes on to purchase anything from them during the same visit, automatically generates a commission for Dakka. So, for example, if you already buy stuff from Wayland, you don't need to do anything different
except to visit their site by clicking on this banner.
2) PATRONIZE OUR SPONSORS AND TELL THEM WHERE YOU FOUND THEM
We get a lot of good companies who are genuinely trying to target their core audience by advertising here on Dakka. If you're ever curious to keep an eye on what companies are currently advertisers, you can always see a list of all the ads we display simply by clicking on the
view all ads link at the top of the page below the advertisement (or you can always get to it through the 'services' link at the top of any page).
Visiting any of the sites that advertise on Dakka (and telling them that you found them from Dakka) obviously helps to support Dakka as these advertisers will be more inclined to renew their banners here if they see positive results. And again, actually going to their sites by clicking on their banners here on Dakka is even better as many of these companies track how many visitors they get directly from Dakka.
3) PROMOTE DAKKA ON OTHER SITES
Want to spread the word on other sites about how great you think Dakka is? In that case, we have a generic Dakka gif that you can put into your signature
on other forums you frequent or you can simply put it as a link on your blog/website (
please do not use it here on dakka).
If the forum uses UBB (IMG) tags, copy this code into your sig entry field:
If the forum only uses html for sig pictures, you can use this code instead:
Of course, if the site doesn't allow gifs in their sigs, you can always show your Dakka pride simply by putting a regular 'ole link to Dakka into your sigs! Something simple like:
dakkadakka.com - miniature gaming with an attitude
Which can be done by putting the following codes into your sig entry fields on other sites (for forums that support UBB tags):
or for HTML only forums:
4) BECOME A DAKKA CONTRIBUTING MEMBER (DCM)
Dakka costs money to run and the bigger we get, the more money it takes. If you like the site and feel you'd like to donate some money towards its running costs, we certainly appreciate it and if you do, we want to make sure everyone else knows that you're helping to keep the lights on by giving your account the 'DCM' status.
So what do you get for becoming a DCM? Well, we make every effort to cram every last bit of functionality into the basic design of Dakka for
every user, so honestly that means there's not a whole lot of stuff you 'get' for being a DCM, besides the knowledge that you're helping to support a great community. With that said, there are a few perks to being a DCM:
Optional Ad-Free Website: This makes your browsing experience faster, although you can always toggle the ads back on if you want to keep your eye out for something new.
Private Forum: DCM's have access to their own set of private forums where just about any kind of discussion goes.
Special Advertiser Offers: Some of our advertisers offer special deals or promos for DCMs.
Custom Title: DCM's can adjust their "Title" (rank) that appears in their forum profile and posts.
DCM Promos: Every now and then we offer contests/raffles or the chance to purchase Dakka-themed dice.
Front Page Content: Dakka DCMs can get a news post on Dakka's front page about some of their better forum threads or articles.
Dakka Dakka E-mail address: DCM's can request a special yourname@dakkadakka.com e-mail address powered by the awesome gmail engine.
So what does it take to become a DCM? A $25 (USD) donation=one year status as a DCM. If you're able to donate more, the appropriate amount of extra time is just tacked on.
If becoming a Dakka DCM is something that sounds interesting to you, just head on over to your profile page, and on the left hand side you will see a 'BUY NOW' button, which allows you to make a donation and join the ranks of the DCMs. You can even gift another Dakka member DCM status by clicking the 'BUY NOW' button on their profile page!
And, that's it!
So thanks again for any and every bit of support you give!
