Urban Mammoth is pleased to announce the addition of Zac Belado, the founding editor of Tabletop Gaming News, to the Urban War team. Zac will be bringing his experience with marketing and promotions in the tabletop gaming industry to the company to help Urban Mammoth expand the audience for Urban War. In addition to his many years of writing and marketing experience he will also be bringing to the company his unique experience in building online communities. He is not only a long-time tabletop gamer but has also been playing Urban War, and its precursor Void, for years and was one of the early Void demo team members.

"Some of my favourite gaming memories involve Syntha Grape Gunners, Viridian Shock Troopers and the VASA Archangels. Some people got into sci-fi mass combat via games like Warhammer 40K, but VOID was my first large-scale sci-fi game and the Urban War universe has been a part of my gaming history ever since."

John Roberston of Urban Mammoth is excited by the addition of Zac to the team.
"Zac has a unique blend of skills that we are happy to add to Urban Mammoth and the Urban War team. He is not only a gamer and a fan of the system and universe but he has spent years working as an intermediary between fans and the industry. He has approached the business of marketing games from the perspective of an industry professional as well as a fan."

Zac's first tasks will be expanding the presence of Urban War online with a series of new social media pages as well as posting news and information to other online sites and forums.

Urban Mammoth is the producer of games and miniatures such as Warheads and the Urban War Second Edition sci-fi skirmish game.

That's pretty cool.

I thought Urban War was dead after the owner went AWOL and spent like 5 years in Kazakhstan trying to make a video game or something?

John does indeed live in Kazakhstan with his wife who is teaching there. Nothing shady going on at all :-) Well at least not with John :-)

The company has been in a slow period for some time but is working on picking up the release schedule for Urban War and as part of that I will be helping to promote the game online and keep everyone informed of the new product and programs coming out for the game.

Ah, cool. I followed you guys pretty closely about 8 or so years ago and bought a bunch of stuff but lost interest when the tumbleweeds started rolling.

Sculpts are still very nice, though and I like the background and artwork.

Any plans to convert everything to resin or resin plastic? Only big issue I see with the range as it stands is the raw materials cost of metal making everything a bit too pricy (if not for Urban War, then certainly for Metropolis).

And you are Zac or some other official from Mammoth Games?
Edit: Seems like you are Zac indeed, judging from your profile.

No plans to convert to plastic or plastic-resin. Metropolis isn't a game that the company is going to expand going forward and the plan, for the moment, is to focus on Urban War with new releases and product and so the material cost isn't as big a problem for gamers given the low number of figures you need for the game.

Was it weird writing about yourself in third person? I just feel it skews the announcement when it turns out the exciting addition wrote and published the piece themselves.

THAT SAID - I really like the style of Urban War (spotted the game through some peoples' sigs on here) and I hope the website gets an update and the game picks up speed. Will follow this with interest.

Congratulations, Zac!

I remember when Void first came out and they sent out rulebooks for free. Still got it somewhere. I always wondered about why they went from Void to Urban War to Metropolis. Is Urban War basically Void 2nd edition or something? Is Metropolis to Urban War as Necromunda is to 40K? How are all those games related? Are units from Void still legal?

The games are related only in that they are set in the same universe and use the same stats.

Urban War is a skirmish scale game with players alternating activations with individual figures.
Metropolis was a mass combat game similar to Void but using the new mechanics from Urban War.
Neither game has a campaign system similar to Necromunda but Urban War is a similar scale of game

Urban Mammoth is currently selling the Second Edition of Urban War which is a streamlined and simplified version of the Urban War rules.

Void isn't supported any more but the figures you have from that game can easily be used in Urban War. The stat cards for each faction are available as a paid PDF download and the Quick Start rules and stat cards for the units from each starter set are available as a free download in several languages.

http://www.urbanwarthegame.com/support-downloads.php

So if you have an existing set of figures from Void you could grab the Quick Start rules and the stat cards and try the new edition of Urban War out for free with the minis you have.

Congratulations! Void has some really great figures out there from solid generic sci-fi civlians to great walkers, cyborgs and of course sci-fi sumo wrestlers.

Wish you the best!
