Hey all,
Thought I'd post firstly to say 'Hi'. Have been lurking around various websites related to 40k for a while, and thought I best get a little more involved!
Anyway, an introduction to why I am coming back. Honestly, I don't think I can give a single reason; there's just been a surge of enthusiasm. I started playing 40k just prior to the release of the 3rd Edition (Necrons were my first choice because it was "Oh wow they're robots!", but that quickly changed to "Damn they only have like two figures), but never got into the gaming side of things till after the release of the above mentioned edition (it was just a hell of a lot simpler!). That's when I switched allegiances to Space Marines (and yes, Ultramarines), and then again to Eldar. After that I kinda just lost interest, grew up, found alcohol etc etc and so on.
I've always kept an eye on what was going on, figure was. Excursions to GW's website, or the Forge World website have kinda kept me in the loop, but in the last few weeks I've really been playing catch-up!
It's a great to see so many forces have been so thoroughly fleshed out, especially various chapters of the Space Marines. One thing that instantly struck me, and yes I know this is geting old for some of you, is the prices! I went through some of my old pieces the other day, and my Rhino box still has the £10 sticker on it! That's half of what it is now! Still, no one's got a gun to my head, forcing me to buy/play, so it has hardly damaged my enthusiasm.
I still need to catch up on a lot; Apocalypse and so on were never out when I was last playing, and with the 6th edition rumoured to be around the corner, I'm not about to go out and buy tons and tons of rulebooks and literature! God bless internet forums, hey?
Anyway, as for what army I may go for now, I'm not too sure. Initially I was liking the look of Tau, but the more and more I thought about it, despite how good they do like in their own way, they are a bit out of place with the gothic art style I personally associate with 40k, and they are blatantly a way for GW to get a foot into the Japanese market. I'm reading as much fluff as I possibly can, looking into every army available. and seeing what grabs me. It's something that I want to give a good thought into, because I've never been into collecting more than one force at a time.
All I know is I want a balanced army, good looking, no special characters, and fluff-faithfull. I'm not asking for opinions though, because 40k was always about doing what YOU wanted. A fluffy and yet competitive army is very appealing though...
Anyway, that'll do for now!
Oh and I see the Sister's STILL haven't had plastics released yet!
