I've managed to pick up a rather nasty virus.
It repeatedly closes all programs that are running and has nestled itself in the registry somewhere.
I managed to delete the program I though was responsible (and got hold of a permanent file delete application to zap it) but it's still there.
How could I DL and run that program?
Well that's the wierd bit and kinda gives me some hope; It only affects one of the users on the computer, the rest are fine. So presumably it's in the user files somewhere.
I'd rather not do a full re-instal, but I dont' want to leave it there.
I've ran Adaware and Spybot, but neither found it.
Any ideas?

the morally responsible thing to do here is to contact all of your past sexual partners and advise them of the possibility of infection and encourage them to be tested.
You could try combofix if you are confident in your tech savvy.

Use r-kill then install a competent anti-virus program. It's quite possible the Virus is preventing those programs from finding it, one way or another.
Just make sure you're not using free Antivirus programs. In my experience, they tend to not be as thorough or good, as the ones you pay for.

Download the Malware bytes express edition. It'll clear up your viruses in no time, and to my recollection doesn't get closed when the virus cancels all your program's processes (from personal expierance). =P

I've also had really good luck with Malware bytes.

If Malware Bytes won't run, change the name of the executable. Has worked for me in the past You can also try running it off a flash drive.

I watched one of my friends deal with a self-replicating trojan. He used Avast to help locate the file the virus was in and deleted it, but it managed to create itself over and over again. The issue is that there is a root program that allows this to happen and in order to get it he had to locate the virus running in task manager, when he shut it down the virus had to reboot and that allowed avast to post the root's location. Then he deleted the root and all was well.
