Hey guys, haven't been able to be on this week but, I did create and test a new unit and without making this a battle report, I'll try and tell you what happened.

Horvigon 190

WS 3 BS 3 5 5 T 6 W 6 I 4 A 4 LD 10 SV 3+
Type: Monstrous Creature
Weapons : Bonded Exoskeleton, Scything Talons
Special Rules: Synapse Creature, Brood Progenitor, Psyker, Shadow in the Warp, Spawn Hormagaunt, Fleet, Bounding Leap
Psychic Power: Domination

Options: An addition set of Scything Talons 5 pts, Crushing Claws 25 pts, Frag Spines 5 pts, Adrenal Glands 10 pts, Toxin Sacs 10 pts, Acid Blood 15 pts, Implant Attack 15 pts, Toxic Miasma 15 pts, Regeneration 30 pts, Catalyst 15 pts, Over-run 15 pts

Over-run: psychic shooting attack that automatically hits a single friendly unit within 12", that unit gains the Assault Grenades special rule until the end of the assault phase.

I played two of those units against "speed freak" Orks, and we ultamately tied on kill points. This thing was fast and vary scary I was actually blown away by how fast it was. My feeling of the points was it was balenced, it is a beast in close combat but it has no shooting and for its speed it's 30 points over the average Tyranid Monstrous Creature.

Tyranids 3000 points
Dark Angels 500 points

I think its an interesting dynamic overall, giving one the ability to put brood(s) of Hormies right in the enemies lines early on but Im sceptical of the points.
Just because its 30 points more then its contemperies - Carni/Tervi etc dosent necessarily mean its balanced.
The fact it has fleet and bounding, as you've said means its very very fast , tough with 6 wounds and a 3+ save.

Did you use one or multiple of them? I think in isolation it might be ok but for less then 600 points you can have 3 of them all sprinting forward spawning Hormies which are very fast too.
It would mean hitting the enemy on T2 at the latest, which is quite interesting but potentially very OP if there are several of them and thats of course before you include the rest of your army build.

A few more games to test/evaluate would be great

I'd pop the Adrenal and Toxin both up to 15 points, Regeneration down to 20 (Something I do with all tyranids homebrew), and it looks good at maybe 200 points.

Remember that they can't fleet and cast their overrun in the same turn - also remember that hormagaunts still can't do much to transports

I'll see if I can give it a spin on vassal.

Pit your chainsword against my chainsw- wait that's Heresy.

The concept is nice, but seems a bit OP to me.
I'd say :
- Drop the frag spines => you'll have to choose between an over-run self-cast or unit cast, making its use a smart choice. And the over-run power (which is a great idea) is aldready powerfull enough
- Adrenal Glands 15 pts
- Toxin Sacs 15 pts

6k - 5k - 4k
