Hello fellow DakkaDakka users, I hope this fits this forum! At the moment i'm a struggling ork player, being constantly bested by fellow 40k mates! Anyway to the point:
My army against stormravens = Let's just say out of 5 battles against my Blood Angels Mad Twin Brother, I've never managed to destroy his beloved stormraven and worse, lost all of them! Am i just being stupid? .... probably, so please assist me and correct my orky brain! Plus, losing constantly to your twin really sucks!

Anyway, I've got a campaign coming up with 3 mates (my brother included) and really need the help, so please feel free to insult me and my terrible tactics!

P.S. I've just bought him another for his (and my) birthday in 4 days time! Campaign starts in a week, so at the moment i'm screwed!

If you go 1st the deffkopta turn 1 assault with the buzzsaw will autohit. If not tl bs 2 rokkits from deffkoptas are better off shooting the raven than anything else.

Small lootas squads should go for av11 targets, larger squads could try a sr.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Deffkoptas, either outflanking or if you have gone first, scouting forward.

Beyond that, could always just have enough boyz on the field were it can't get away.

This, against cheap units in cover it's actually a very inneffective killer. Take that from someone who plays guard ;D

Given the importance of the stormraven I would shoot lootas at it. Obviously start with your rockets and always have good supply of rockets be it big guns, buggies, kans or koptas.

Behold, the epic truth of Mobs!

They're right, though. Your twin's Stormraven can shoot all it likes at a big mob of orks in cover, but it's not going to do much to dislodge them. Meanwhile, I'd say rokkits everywhere was a good counter-strategy for knocking the damn thing out of the sky whilst it tries in vain to shoot down your covered boyz.

isn't it relatively difficult to get cover from something thats like 8 inches off the table?

Anyways, as above, rokkits, lootas, even claws in assault can bring them down, since you don't rely on melta they really aren't too bad.

If they are in terrain, runis ect usually in cover is in cover regardless of how high the model it. It will affect LoS but not cover
