Hey guys, I'm looking to start a DE army with brown as the main color. Here's sorta the color scheme I'm going for...

(Brown for the main armor plates, blue cloth, hair and accents, flesh-tone flesh and muted silver for weapons and metal bits)

To save time, I was looking to buy some brown primer, but can only find the stuff army painter sells, which is fine, but a tad expensive. Does anyone know what else I could use?

Thanks!

I'm a fan of Krylon. Prime black, base coat in the brown color of your choosing

Rustoleum is a good brand too.

And, as with any can of paint: nice light coats. These brands won't hide detail if you take some caution.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Krylon actually sells a ruddy brown primer, I saw it at my hardware store this weekend!

Cool! Thanks, guys. I did a little more poking around on the internet, and came across Tamiya's line of sprays. They seem to have just about any color you could need.

Krylon's Ruddy Brown primer is a reddish brown. I've been using it to prime models I'm painting red and it's worked well. It would make a good base for browns as well, especially if you're working toward red browns.

Plus it's 3.87 at Walmart. Which is cheap and easily accessible.

Cheap is always good to hear.

Tamiya's primers come in 100mL cans for 6.50usd each, whereas Army Painter is about 15usd for a 400mL can.

I guess I'll check out the krylon, then.

I've used Krylon or Rustoleum Camo Brown with good results. The camo colors are meant for heavy outdoor use and function as primers and hold up quite nicely. I've also used the Green and Khaki colors.

to be honest I'd use black primer, then brush over whichever brown. It would leave the dark lines behind for more detail. I know this response isnt that helpful, but it's how I did my brown dark eldar. Or steampunk eldar I guess.
