Its only a 5 point difference for blood angels. Is it worth it, or should the points be spent elsewhere?

I prefer razorbacks for my blood angels. I typically run 8 razor backs (2 honor guard with 6 RAS) (Thanks, Mercer!)
You can get a free heavy bolter with the price break on dedicated transports, or a severly reduced price on las/ plas (the most popular build for BA's it seems).
For 5 points of difference, razors are the way to go.
And 5 marines in a razor is plenty- I tend to run 2-3 in groups at a time, so if the squads have to disembark and get into CC, you are ensuring there are enough marines to handle most units. Just remember to disembark prior to moving if you need to do this since if you move the razor first you can't assault when you dismount. Its a good way to squeeze another 2" on your assault range

that's pretty much spot on. The discount for the las/ plas seems the way to go, since blood angels get to have fast razors ( a huge benifit) meaning they get to move 6" and still fire all their weapons.

You get the same 35pt discount on any transport for jump-pack-less assault marines. So you're looking at 15pts for a Fast Rhino or 55 for a Fast Razor with an upgraded turret (usually las/plas, though both assault cannon and twin-linked las have their virtues). That's a 40pt difference. Sure, the twin heavy bolter version is only 5pts more than a Rhino, but losing 5 spots of transport capacity and the top hatch in return for a TL HB is not usually considered a great trade.
It really comes down to role. If you want a (reasonably) inexpensive scoring unit in a vehicle which can offer some fire support, you want the Razor. If you want a cheap Fast transport which can carry a decent-size unit of assaulty guys, or a smaller bodyguard for a Librarian who wants to cast powers out the top hatch of a vehicle, then you want the Rhino.

Pretty much never the rhino.
Just considering assault marines:
5 men in rhino can shoot a melta if it travels 6'' but then a few extra points get the razorback which can move further and shoot with really longer range guns, or travel the same or shoot more the same distance.
10 men in rhino can shoot 2 meltas if it travels 6'', now this is getting to be nearly as useful as razorback, however it is not great value for money if you add up the points of the squad even with the discounted rhino it is still steep, given this is not an assault vehicle and khorne bezerkers in a rhino are severely limited.
Now for other units 50 pts for a rhino is not great value and given most units like to be assaulting it is not really suitable.

It's more than a few extra points, if you want a good gun (although honestly, the TL-heavy flamer is the better competition, which is only 5pts more).
Being able to cast a psychic power out of the top is nice.
Being able to shoot a melta or two out is nice.
A transport able to move 18" in a turn, carrying 10 guys, is pretty nice. And tank-shock 18" before or after dropping off the troops.
And of course there's the protective value of the vehicle.
