In an effort to expand my ork army without spending any money i am considering converting some old model into a fighter. But my question is how do you use air craft effectively in 40k? My concerns are...

1) Fragility! Even though it requires a 6 to hit, with a 4+ cover save, a space marine squad with bolters looks like a daunting obstacle.
2) What do you do when the rockets are gone? Can 2 TL big shootas have any effect on a game?

Thanks in advance

I'd fear IG Hydras more than SM bolters. Just sayin'.

Our play group has ZERO hydras, thank goodness. Currently crunching some math hammer on the subject. Still looking for some tactical help
