Hey guys I have been playing my Eldar for quite sometime now and I think its time to tweak the list just a little. My usual load out at 2000 points is 4 DAs in Serpents, 3 Dragons in Serpents, and 3 fire prisms. I run 2 Autarchs and reserve everything so I get the alpha strike on turn 2. Now this list has been extremely successful for me and I hate to change it, but I feel it might be lacking something. So, here is my new list idea.

HQ:
Autarch
-Fusion Gun

Troops:
5x Dire Avengers

I still have some points to mess around with as well. I think its somewhere around 50 points left to spend. Now the downfall to my other list is that my dragons are the only thing causing an immediate threat, which makes target priority fairly easy for my opponent. With everything coming in from reserve, I will now have 9 War Walkers outflanking which will be taking side/rear armor shots and really causing a big distraction that needs dealt with. This takes a lot of heat off of my Fire Dragons and allows them to get to where they need to go. While the fire prisms are awesome, their not THAT awesome. Let me know what you guys think. My other 2500 point list would be the same thing, only I would be switching out the War Walkers and adding in my Prisms with Holo Fields, and spirit stones.

Well, its a nice Serpent spam list. I'd replace one Autarch with a Farseer w/ runes of warding for psychic protection, since psykers are everywhere in the 40k universe.

Yeah the Farseer would be a nice addition, but I have been using my two Autarchs for so long, I dont know what I would do without that 2+ Reserve roll.

Other than that, do you think that the War Walkers would be a better overall option over the Fire Prisms?

Well, I wonder what you're doing with all your Serpents when the leaked rulebook becomes true. Then Eldar needs to be played differently.

I disagree. There is def. a way to make any list work in any edition. I'm really not planning on changing much of anything. If the rules are true, the only thing I'll be doing is making my DAs full squads of 10 and prob dropping 1 or 2 serpents to do so. Other than that, nothing is changing.

Now, aside from the rules that are prob not even close to 6th edition, do you think the War Walkers will serve me better than the Fire Prisms?

The discussion of the new ruleset aside, I currently fill the HS slot with Warwalkers, the more the better. They served me well in all the recent games. Sometimes they outflank and even tie up enemy units like Long Fangs or heavy weapon teams.

I've played nearly and identical version of this army and the War Walkers are situational.

On the positive side, they are great against the IG parking lots. I've been able to Outflank and have the WW come on shoot and even assault tank formations and/or infantry platoons with success.

Folks who aren't careful with their MSU MEQ placement have shown me how good WW are. Specifically, folks who set up Long Fangs for great field of fire, but don't protect them from outflanking.

I've had fairly good success against Dark Eldar. The S6 negates the FnP and they open up Raiders/Ravagers/Venoms fairly well.

On the less successful ventures: without Guide, I'm only killing 2-3 Marines per WW squadron with Scatterlasers. Add in FnP (Blood Angels) and I have less success. Descent of Angels Blood Angels have made short work of these kinds of units.

Ultimately, I've found them to be a tricky unit to use and they are not as utilitarian as a Wave Serpent. Some games they are kings of the battle; others I've just sat and groaned as they get shredded. I think the most important thing to do is to play multiple games to determine what your preferred number of WW are. Personally, I started with 9 and now run 3-6 as I like to utilize other HS slots.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thank you guys for the replies. Its going to be extremely tough getting rid of my Prisms. However I have noticed that I normally only use 2 prisms with success. That being linking them to drop large groups of marines in a single blast. The third Prism is becoming a bit of a black sheep. I may try 2 Prisms and 1 unit of War Walkers and see how that fairs.

I can see how the War Walkers would either do REALLY good or do REALLY bad. Ill play test them a couple times and see how they do.

In fact, WW need to be used with care.

In the last RTT, my mech Eldar battled a Draigowing. His deathstar was placed in the centre too far away from my WW with scatter lasers. We had a great laugh since the WW caused a tremendous number of wounds on the Pallies during the whole game.
