At least, I think it's simple. I'm completely new to WHFB and I'm considering starting an Orcs and Goblins army. I just want to have a full understanding of the army before I start collecting, so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

From my searching online, it looks like everyone seems to agree that Night Goblin Fanatics will only inflict 2D6 hits if the enemy ends their movement directly on top of the fanatics. But on pg. 53 of the army book, it says that "Any unit that moves into contact with a Fanatic" would take the 2D6 (a D6 for touching it and a further D6 from its death throes). How exactly does this work?
The way I'm interpreting it, any unit that touches the Fanatic (moves into contact) would take 2D6 hits and then the Fanatic would be removed as a casualty. I'm sure this is wrong, but I need someone to break it down for me

On a somewhat related note, their "Splat!" rule doesn't seem to make a ton of sense to me. It says that if the Fanatic would end its move within a unit, then he automatically bounces through it...but I thought if the Fanatic ends its move within a unit, it (the fanatic) was destroyed. Again, a quick explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

There is a diffference between the Fanatic moving into a unit (where it bounces through) and a unit moving into the fanatic, when it dies

Ah, I think I understand now. So the only way that the Fanatic actually dies (and inflicts 2D6 hits) is if my opponent chooses to move into contact with them?

There's also one other general question which I just want to clarify. Reading through the BRB, it looks like Random Movement is really only "Random Distance". Is that correct? So there's basically no chance that the Fanatics will randomly spin back on to my units?

Again, I apologize for the dumb question. I just started reading the Fantasy rules a couple of days ago...I was under the impression that 'random movement' also included random direction. I just want to make sure that I was wrong.

Thanks a bunch!

Yes and no. Yes, you can kill them by walking to them. No, there's one more way - you can shoot them down.

That is how it used to be in previous editions of the O&G army book. You are correct that under the current book, any time an enemy model/unit moves into contact with a fanatic,, they unit/model takes 2d6 hits and the fanatic is removed.

Not the way Fanatics have their rules written(or Mangler Squigs)

Once they have been released, they move in a random direction aswell. You only get to pick the direction when they are first released. once that happens they are moving in random directions.

Manglers can pick their direction until they hit an enemy unit, then they become completely random.

You are correct about random movement being only the distance, but Fanatics and Manglers have additional rules that superceds the general rule.
