In the lore thee is so much, so what would a 40k movie be about. Would it follow the Horus heresy books or would belike the ultramarines movie with two factions fightin and beating the Out of each other
I would like to see a movie that covered a story line similar to the Dawn of War: Dark Crusade game, a number of different factions all battling over the same planet. Obviously add in alot of non-combat parts, political intrigue and the like.
I would love to see a movie or TV show based off the Heresy. Galaxy in Flames and False Gods were so damn epic, it would be amazing seeing some of those battles with epic orchestra music playing in the background.
I can imagine the forlorn music playing while Istvaan is gassed and burned, or the dread anticipation when Tarvitz realizes that he has to fight Lucius, and and and the fight between Loken, Torgaddon, Aximand and Abbadon!
Ah my gawd I'm creaming in my pants at the thought.
It would have to be longer than a trilogy, though, and as well a lot of the less important stuff would need to be cut out. As awesome as it would be to see Fulgrim punching the gak out of a Wraithlord and Avatar on the big screen, a full on origin story for all the traitor primarchs would be too detracting from the main story. It would have to focus primarily on Horus and the characters closest to him as the protagonists, with a large supporting cast for most of the important side characters (like Garro, Saul, the various traitor primarchs, etc).
At first you could have one book for each movie up until Galaxy in Flames, at which point you'd have to start mixing up the various events to keep everything relevant.
It would be tough, due to how much lore is involved, but with a strong enough budget the Horus Heresy really could be one of the greatest sci-fi epics of all time.

A 40k movie in realistic terms would have to be about Space Marines.
However the other day I was imaging a fun scenario. That by some unexplained event our Earth and Terra were actually different worlds, and it is M41 and we've simply been a lost human colony. The Imperium invades, swiftly conquers/enslaves the planet, and a Red Dawn-like scenario of desperate resistance fighters forms.
Or you can watch this trailer and replace the Navy SEAL's with IG Stormtroopers and the terrorists with lord knows...
With all them action movies with super spies and what not I think it'd be a good choice to go with the IG, and keeping along with that novel, (42 hours?) just end up killing the protagonist later either with a heroic last stand or commisar execution.
That way it introduces the grimdark of WH40k and then later you can add in other factions as you see fit.
well i liked the ultramarines movie, i think it was done very well for what they had and the time they did it in. also have you seen starship troopers? that basically IG vs Nids looool.
anyway i think it would better be served as a tv series since there is so much lore.
movie wise i would say the deceit of huron and how they stormed his ship with a special marines squad to take him out or something
but you know the saying - i would rather read the worst book ever written then watch the best movie ever made.
Rogue Traders (Chaos Space Marines) 500pts
Warp Legions (Daemons) 2000pts
From my view, it would have to be space marines vs something else, they always focus on space marines in games, the ultramarines movie etc so I think that they wouldn't change from that theme, but a re-enactment of Black reach or Fall of Damnos would be quite nice to watch IMO.
I would not settle for anything less than a 4 hour per film mega-high budget epic trilogy about the third battle for Armageddon. From the first destruction of the watch-stations to the Death Company's forlorn hope at the Tempestora gap. I could cast Clint Eastwood as Commisar Yarrick and The Big Show as Ghazkhull.
I would love a hbo series based on the gaunt ghosts you have strong charactors with interlinking subplots female charactors as well as romance. Plus anyone will understand the plots
My wish is to include Eldar, Sisters, Grey Knights and ( most importantly ) TERMINATORS!!!

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

Yes!
I think 4-5 movies would be needed. TV shows would be cool too. Like have books like Flight of the Eisenstein, Mechanicum or Legion play out over 12 episodes or something?

Seriously though, I think the IG should be the focus. They are human, and therefore it'll be easier to relate to them than to a, say, 8 ft tall genetically engineered killing machine. Its also better from a production standpoint, as its easier to dress a bunch of human actors up in futuristic kevlar vests, than it is to try to make SM look good, and not like some weedy guy in an oversized suit of plate armor.

Westwood lives in death!
Peace through power!
A longbeard when it comes to Necrons and WHFB. Grumble Grumble
Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios
If I had to pick a specific book/story, I would pick the Eisinhorn Omnibus and Titanicus. Eisinhorn would make a great trilogy and Titanicus could be a Stand-alone movie.
Something that doesn't have Space Marines as the main characters. They can be supporting characters, but not the main ones.
Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines
Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
I think following a company of guardsman for a first movie would be the most effective. Maybe make mention to space marines and maybe only have them show up in the final battle.
I find IG personafies "grimdark" in that they have pretty rough lives and are generally seen as disposable.

I agree with Eisenhorn Trilogy or maybe a Gaunt's Ghosts movie. Or really anything Dan Abnett- what he writes is very accessible to readers, and probably moviegoers, too.

Yep, would be a block buster, War movies are in again!

Fulgrim would make a great film. It's the perfect length, indepth characters and tons and tons of violence. However, it'd probably be X, so that's a slight problem.
