The Eagles were for the remaining 100 points that I had no idea what to do with. Like i've said, im new to Fantasy and dont know the rules too well, thanks for any advice in advance. Maybe instead of the Eagles I could put more points into the Special choices?

Sorry, I just looked at the organization chart and just realized at 1000 points I cant take a lord I'll put up another one in the correct format later.

hmmm... is the seaguard unit really 25% of your army points? You have to have at least that amount in core. Also, at 1000pts you CAN have a lord he/she/it/they just need to be under 25% of your army, in this case 250 points. Plus I think your special is more than 50% of your army points. Maybe read the rules for making an army again?

In the first list, the Archmage cannot armor, otherwise an ok list maybe think of taking just 20 lions or 20 Phoenix guard.
The second list your short on core 250 point min. Also your mage can't take 2 Arcane items.

Also yes you can take a lord up to 25% of your points. Do not use the rules in your codex about army comp (other than extra specials and rares) its now in the big rulebook. Also read the faq on GW s website.

Hmmm, Alright. So Add another Seaguard Unit with the same as the other, trim down on the DP's get rid of the Noble and fix up the mage a bit? Sorry, I was looking at the codex composition.

That's close to my tournament 1k list. I take
Archmage silver wand
20 Lothern full command + 1 ld banner
18 Phoenix guard full command banner of sorcery
2x great eagles. Or repeater bolt thrower
Works well with lore of death, shadow, or heavens so far.

Alright cool, which do you think would work better? I already have the Dragon Prince models, that's why i'm kind of partial to them. However, White Lions I've heard are really resilient with their Stubborn. I know I definitely want Phoenix Guard as I think they're amazing.

Personally I love dragon princes, my last 2250 had 20 in there. Phoenix guard are great to protect your mages, especially off you give them magic resist 2 (and the 4+ ward for a2+ save from miscast damage) and never used white lions much. If your normal opponents are shooty go write lions, 3+ save. Otherwise a lot of people hate fighting Phoenix guard.

Id run the seaguard in a single block, and only take enough to reach your 250 requirement, which is 19 with full command and shields, 21 without shields and full command.

Completely agree with the phoenix guard as a bunker. Give them magic res 2, and enjoy the 2++ from potential miscasts. Quite well at bogging down units too, 5+/4++, fear, str 4, ld. 9. Love them.

White lions vs. Dragon Princes just comes down to what you're facing and how many bodies you need. You'll get 10 white lions for the price of five dragon princes, about the same amount of attacks, BUT! You'll be hard pressed to break ranks with the DP, and after the charge they're str. 3. White lions will give you str 6, everytime, and will always be ld 8 (9 with archmage in range). If you've got the models for the DP's, stick with what you've got, but try and get at least a couple units of them if possible, or strengthen the 1 unit you take to an extra rank or maybe 7 wide.

What lore were you thinking for your archmage?

Try and get a couple eagles in if you can. 100 points for warmachine hunters and march\charge blockers is priceless...ok, its 100 points, which is great value at least.

I was thinking either Life or Shadow for my Archmage, leaning more towards Life. I could get White Lions too I suppose, or just proxy swordsmen as them.

Both are decent choices, play test and see what you like best. If you're looking for particular spells though, and dont want to risk not getting them, I think you'd be better off with high magic. Getting a very cheap ward save and a fairly good chance of rolling for flames of the phoenix shouldn't be overlooked. And without dwellers, the killiness of life is limited at best.

I mean, I could always lower the Archmage to a regular mage and take the Staff of Saphery. What lore do you think I should take if I can choose which spells I want?

Why not use the sword masters, 2A at s5 they are a much better foot soldier than lions imo. And the lore depends on the opponent, high magic is great overall though.

I believe the FAQ clarified you don't get MR against miscast results.

I don't think an archmage is necessary at 1k, drop to a level 2 with wand and some kind of ward perhaps? Mash the two seaguard units into one, maybe save yourself some cash by taking swordmasters over Dp and put an eagle or two back in.

Yes you still get your normal ward save(assuming the Miscast result allows them). The save is just unaffected by a models MR.

Don't get me wrong, that unit is a great Mage bunker. I just wanted to point out something that I've seen played wrong locally.

ah alright, thanks. Yeah, I could see that being abused quite a lot if that was true

I was thinking the 2++ with MR from other casters, as from my experiences with 1k point armies is a lot of magic missles and or normal shooting and not as much combat.
