So, i've been thinking about building kits... I was hoping to one day do modular plastic building kits similar to GW's Cities of Death kits where you snap together a few wall and roof panels along with a storefront piece to make a western style building. But I worry that's not going to be able to happen without some amazingly high kickstarter since the plastic mold prices would be pretty crazy
So I thought about resin.. I'm not the biggest fan of resin, but I think if it's done well with high quality sculpts it could come out great, going for the level of detail folks like Tabletop World have been doing for fantasy buildings. They would be 3D sculpts, printed on a high end printer the same as our miniatures, and then produced as resin wall panels. It wouldn't be modular though, each kit would be it's own building. No idea what prices would be like, but would anyone be interested in western buildings with a high level of detail like that? Or would you rather we work toward getting the modular plastic kits going some day?

I would love some buildings! Be they wood, resin, or plastic.
I love Tabletop World stuff, wish I had the money to afford some of it.

Yeah that's the thing.. doing it in resin we could get lots of detail, but the price would be pretty high.. probably twice as much as your average laser cut wood building. I like the wood buildings for the cost and just getting stuff done quick, but I feel they lack a lot of character that a nicely sculpted building could have... like Tabletop world does.
Just guessing though, no real clue how much it will cost until we actually make a kit and see. I think I would probably start with a small shop, maybe 4x4" and a flat roof. I think that would be cheaper and good for a starter project and then we can take it from there.

I think wood kits actually fit pretty well with the Wild West theme. One being they were wood, and two being that they are pretty basic buildings anyways.
Doesn't seem like there would be a reason for tons of detail on a building (unless you really desire to have wood grain)

Pretty much this
But also, just having a lot of irregular details like crooked planks, rickety stairs that wrap around the building.. and some stone work too, not all buildings were 100% wood. And we could also move on to other things like adobe buildings too. The thing with the laser cut buildings is they're all so "perfect" looking, so I want to make imperfect buildings
Kind of hoping we could build future kits off of the first one.. so a big hotel might use some of the same wall panels as the first. Or a saloon kit could be the same as another building, just with swinging saloon doors instead of a traditional one. Hopefully that could keep costs down.

If you were to use a plastic mold with the help of kickstarter, you could also add expansion items as well to help raise interests and perhaps bring in new players to the game; or do what Spiral Arms Studios has done and create only frames, doors, etc so the players' imagination can go wild and create anything.
Of course this forum is a few years old, so you might have already sorted out the terrain issue

Plastic would be awesome, but it's just so far out of my price range now it's silly. I could get something sculpted and produced around $2000 in resin. I'd have to add another zero for plastic If I were to use plastic for anything I would probably want to start with Mechadrome mechs.
So I was planning to do buildings in resin, something I want to do soon, but I want to get the new minis and factions up and running first.
