Does this most recent formation make SM Air Cav any more of a viable option? Or at least a more appealing option? Four Stormravens and five Storm Talons seems pretty funny, especially in a UM Tiggy list.
It certainly opens up the slots in fast and heavy for other uses while still allowing flyers to be fielded.
Any thoughts, dakka?

Isn't that list almost 1500pts just with the fliers alone? o.O...
Imagine the Barrage Lulz needed to shut down a Tiggy list, you'd probably run a real risk of being tabled before your flier goodness can come on...

1500pts on the nose assuming Stormtalons all lave TLLC. So, 1850 can hide Tiggy and three groups of scouts somewhere.
It's a terrible idea, but god help your enemy if you make it to turn 2.

It's about 500pts depending on how you load them out.
To the OP - I see this formation being useful for other armies and not SM. For example, this formation gives a nice arial option for SoB. You CAN run a huge airforce thanks to this formation but I see it more as a way to run your existing airforce better. That said, I haven't seen the rules for the formation and thus I don't know if the formation has to declare a chapter tactics and if it matches my SM detachment's tactics if I can take it or not (since you can't ally with the same chapter tactics and formations, while not allies, follow ally faction rules).

Why does this formation only add strafing to the already twin linked stormraven, and the tau one grants tankhunters and preferred enemy? That's not what I call balance, and I have a Tau army.

I will say that PotMS for a TL BS5 multi-melta to gun down a tank, followed by missiles, assault cannon, and Stormtalon Lascannons into a flier/fliers excites me.

Mix with Tiggy or an allied CCS with Astropath, get a good alpha strike with somewhat better fire from the Storm Raven. The real deal seller for me is that the Storm Strike missiles become BS5.

Per escort rules, they need to stay within 6'' of each other. But they can target independently.

My current salamanders list actually runs with 2 talons and a raven. Since they don't really benefit from the chapter tactics I'm pondering switching them to the formation and rejiggering points to take a third TFC or second bike pack.
