Whether I play casual games or against competitive minded players the order of these types of things changes DRASTICALLY and I imagine this is common across the 40k community.

Sometimes it matters, other time it simply does not. Although I find myself wanting to really hammer down a sequence....untap upkeep draw

How do others play it, please include sharing detailed army lists as this is the biggest offender to me.

hey what time is it?

Second this. I don't agree that the rule book order is the best but it's what my goup uses and we haven't had any issues so far.

As above, however we often forget to roll night fighting.

We go by the rulebook as well but we put fortifications after terrain.

The crazy terrain placement order isn't as much of an issue if you just don't use fortifications...

To be honest, any old order. Usually, whoever arrives at the club first will set up a couple of tables in an even manner (not knowing who or what you're going to be playing helps here). Then, we'll pick opponents and choose army lists. After this, we roll mission and usually stick to the long-table-edge deployment to save time (It's where we get our stuff out anyway, so becomes the deployment zone). Roll off for first deployment/turn. Place objectives. We don't bother with Night Fighting.

Then, setup armies in order of roll-off, both players run through armies/models/weapons and clarify any proxies/counts as. Roll to sieze. Carnage ensues.

I love that there are some things people agree on to such an extent that you have to wonder how GW thought when they put it in.

Like night fight? Nah, we don't bother or we are so uninterested in it that we always forget about it.

I think most people will also agree the rulebook terrain deployment and Fortification order/ruleset is terrible too. The way you can put a hill infront of your enemy's bastion is so obvious it completely blows my mind that GW would allow the rule to work that way.

We always set up terrain, then roll for mission/deployment then choose table edges.

My friends and I mostly follow the BRB order. However, we set up terrain after determining the deployment type, but before we pick sides. We spread the terrain elements evenly throughout the map for balance and without bias. Also, we don't roll for night fighting. It's not like a conscious decision, we just don't do that.

Also, that "placing a hill in front of my ADL" idea is asinine. When I get my ADL, I'm certain my friends will allow me to deploy it together with my other units, that is only after we've set up the terrain according to our house rule.
