Me and a few hobby friends are starting at Mordheim campaign at our local GW store to play over the next few months using the Coreheim ruleset. Was a little surprised we got a yes answer from our store manager (he even phoned head office and they said it's fine ). so anywho this is a P&M blog covering the painting and conversions of our warbands, all of them and we managed to get 8 players... including me I s'pose. unfortunately I kinda got over excited and blasted out 11 models for my starting warband before I even thought about putting a blog but hopefully this will help us all stay motivated and adding to our forces in the coming weeks. bellow is what I have built and painted so for for my Night Goblin warband named "Snazz' Skulkers"

First up my warband's leader "Boss Snazz Clever Tongue"

and his second in command... well as far as night goblins have a "command structure" at least, is my shaman "Morabs Cursefire"

then I have a few rogues to back them up. well 3 as I'm not allowed more in a starting force.

Then my river troll "Rot Stonebrain" to add some muscle

and last the obligatory group shot

I have spent just about all of my starting gold crowns (I have 9 left of 500gc to start)
my force is:
Boss - great weapon, shortbow.
Shaman - club, dagger
3 Rogues - sword, dagger, shortbow
5 Runts - dagger shortbow
River Troll
Fanatic - ball & chain (flail)

Will post again tomorrow evening hopefully with pics and more info about the other warbands playing.

Well who doesn't love swashbuckling goblins? I like to think the Troll doesn't know he's wearing his, they just nailed it on while he was asleep and he's too dumb to realise

Great stuff where do you get the Coreheim rules I've got a hankering for some warband action myself

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. The Coreheim rules are a free download from http://www.coreheim.com/ think they are doing and update in a few weeks and have quite an active community. I have always loved Mordheim, played it since it came out in '99 and was really disappointed when GW removed their active support of it (they actually stopped completely in 2004 think it was the first of the specialist games that stopped getting rules updates) which was why I was pleasantly surprised when my local manager was all for it and head office gave him the go ahead (well head office's words were "if it's good for your store then it's fine") but anywho give me a bit to upload the photos I took last night and there will be another update shortly.

The group had a couple of practice games last night on an extremely makeshift table (we haven't built all the terrain yet alone painted the stuff) first was a 1 vs 1 game between 2 of the human teams Leighton with his Witch Hunter Warband against Alex with his Middenheim Human Mercenaries. despite Alex' Merc Captain not being able to land a telling blow on Leighton's Warrior Priest for 10 rounds of combat Alex did eventually win here's a few pics I took while in the process of painting some stuff.

First a pic of the table in all of it's grey plastic glory

then a few of their game

at one point Leigton's Inquisitor (he's in the middle of converting Sigvald) and one of his Witchhunters ambushed a small group of Alex' Guys through a side corridor then proceded to wiff their attacks and get cut down.

The inquisitor facing off against a state trooper and Alex' Merc Captain while the Witchhunter shoots his pistol from the cover of the building

then last a few better pictures of my rogues and shaman

Our third human player is Cam and he is making a Marrienburg Mercenary warband with a quite particular theme

The guy in the middle of the first shot is his Sergeant called Bo'sun Darling

These are his 2 youngbloods called "Baldrick the cabin boy" and "First Mate George"

and he's starting with 3 markmen handgunners called "McAdder's Rifles"

now can you guess the name of his Captain, the handsome fellow with the great weapon and crossbow slung over his back?

But anywho if anyone is actually interested the teams in my little gaming group stand as:

Wadey - Possessed
Alex - Mercenary - Middenheim
Cam - Mercenary - Marienburg
Leighton - Witch Hunters
Aaron - Undead
Stewie - Skaven
Russell - Undead
Me (Other Aaron people call me by my middle name Ross to be confusing) - Night Goblins

and we basically will be starting this Thursday with hopefully a lot more terrain which I will be building mostly out of foamcore, lolly sticks and hot glue. oh and I am apparently painting Cam's Blackadder themed warband too as he sucks at painting and he is paying me in beer.

Lord Flashheart or Tom? Big vote for a Tom by the way.

This is Cam from the campaign, my leader is Lord Blackadder, Captain Flashheart is going to be the ogre that I hire after my first game.

Indeed Blackadder will be the mercenary captain, leading from behind, naturally, where he is least likely to be shot or stabbed.
but anywho I finished painting something today that happens to be weirdly on toppic... Introducin' "Cap'n Flashheart", Blackadder's loud, obnoxious, and strangely popular ogre bodyguard that can't go a whole sentence without both innuendo and pelvic thrusting.

and his Gnoblar "Polly"

"Woof! now that's a sexy ship! my nipples are so hard you could use them to pries out rigging pins! Woof!"
- Cap'n Flashheart at his interview for his current position as Blackadder's exceedingly overpaid bodyguard

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think the idea was that it starts with Blackadder as the Merc Captain, then has Darling as Bo'sun, George as First Mate and then Baldrick as Cabin Boy with the usual dynamic except Darling and Blackadder tolerate each other. Darling has a very expensive set of dueling pistols and I think the idea is if Blackadder gets the quickshot or gunslinger skills in a level up then Darling is gonna lose the pistols in a bet with Blackadder, obviously the bet was completely fair and that is what causes Darling to absolutely Hate (capitol "H") Blackadder and then when Melchet comes along, filling the role as Quartermaster, they kind of find in each other the kindred of detesting Blackadder. As you can only buy 5 heroes in the warband (captain, 2 sergeants and 2 youngbloods) but you are allowed 6 heroes in any warband, the last has to be a promoted henchman. What Cam's idea was that the first henchman to be promoted would turn out to be Bob... or is it Kate? anywho you probably know who I mean.

Ya he put slightly more thought into it than my warband of "goblins with silly hats" anywho I just went with the Blackadder angle and well will be converting a new model from Leitpold the black a for him to be his upgraded Blackadder as soon as he finds a horse during the campaign

Cool! Your goblins are brilliant and clever conversions. Sea Goblins right! I think one needs a fish tail - A merblin or gobmaid

I hope everyone paints up their warbands. Nothing better than playing with painted skirmish forces on a painted table. Will keep my eyes peeled

Bugger me no we start in a week and we're doing it with fully painted forces I paint fast but I'm not the hobby version of The Flash. I'm just painting 2 of them and taking photos of the other players as they do more they probably will do some of their own additions to this blog if they want, I see Wadey has already threatened the life of Baldrick.

So this his how far Russell has gotten with his undead warband so far... and I am to, apparently, inform you readers it took 6 hours and 14 paints to do his zombies...

Alex from the campaign here; working on my Middenheim Marauders at the moment. My original list consisted of a lot of henchmen and only a captain and youngblood to lead and rake in the gold. After a trial game I saw the error in my ways and have now decided to take a captain, 2 sergeants, 2 youngbloods, a greathammer weilding greatsword (befitting middenheims background) and a statetrooper. All of the warband will have furs, apart from the youngbloods (as defenders of the inner wall of middenheim I suspect that they can't afford skins and see little action to be able to acquire one by other means). I am hoping once the greenstuff dries to get them all undercoated and at least to base standard before we start, we shall see though as I'm currently painting other models for the store painting comp at the end of the week which is taking priority.

So there's my warband, can't wait to use it in a 1v1 and I just hope my captain has a better chance of hitting when we start. I think he needs to get practising.

Wadey, emmisary of the Brotherhood of End day's here giving you the update or my warband.

My (anti) Hero's, led by the towering figure of my possessed Theron, Vessel of the Gods.

Next we have the fanatical cultists that devout them self's to the pursuit of chaos.

Then you have my darksouls..... probably shouldn't have let Mortimus the flesh sculpture have his way with them, to much time in the pits has made him a bit to accustomed to adding extra 'features' (he is the one painted guy)

Sorry for not uploading for a while but went on a holiday but had our next campaign day so up to 4 games but here are a few photos from that day with a bit of update about progress

First a few of Leighton's Witch Hunter Warband:

unfortunately in the process of my game with him on Thursday his Inquisitor was eaten by a squig so his warband is currently looking for new leadership

Automatically Appended Next Post:
almost forgot his hired sword "Barrel Bill"

Automatically Appended Next Post:
here is our campaign map so far

next are a few photos of my new additions and of my games against Leighton

my goblins after their last game took the Amphitheater and decided they were going to hold their own impromptu, all goblin rendition of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" Leighton's warband were not impressed by this, obviously a Troll singing "Like a Bat Out of Hell" must have been some daemonic evil (not to mention their version of "Sweet Transvestite from Tran sexual Transylvania") and decided they were duty bound to intervene and maybe steel some of the takings from the show too.

first Nezb after his first few games has got a bit of a PTSD depression problem but on the bright side can now fire a bow bigger than him... twice! thanks to the arms master and quickfire skills
so after a little conversion work managed to fit a savage orc bow on him

have done a bit of additional green stuff work and he is all painted again so will put up more of my completely painted stuff tomorrow

and here are the new happy members to my warband

next are the game photos, our mission was to take and hold as many of 3 wyrdstone caches and make your opponent route. which ever model held the objectives at the end of the game gained 1exp for them-self and 1 wyrdstone shard for their gang.

our table we set up

first turn snazz did what gobbos do best steal some loot and then go hide

my squigs and rot my troll lead the way down my right flank

and the witchhunters gallant but ultimately doomed counter-charge. Leighton was unfortunately undone by the fickle dice gods as he threw everying at the troll and the squigs but they just wouldn't die he did how ever kill one of my runts and a fanatic with some expert marksmanship by his halfling scout and one of his witch hunters

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The next battle last Thursday... [well that's a weird sentence, anywho back to it] was Stewie and his Skaven assassin warband Vs Russell and his zombie horde

the game resulted in a win for the skaven but lead to the untimely demise of squeaker Stewie's MVP giant rat who in previous games has taken down more than 1 hero, including giving Blackadder a gimpy leg by biting him in the groin, and had survived over a dozen rifle and cross bow hits... RIP Squeaker, you will be remembered fondly

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The next game was between Cam's Mercenaries and Mrs Miggins' Marauders and Wadey's Chaos Cult it was quite a close game for a while but the cultists pulled out a decisive victory in the end.

Cam has made a couple of changes that i'm gonna have fun with, the first being Blackadder bought a horse which means I get to paint a model I had been coveting for a while.

and also one of his riflemen "Bob" got promoted to a hero and it actually turned out to be a girl... gasp no one saw that coming it was such a convincing disguise.

and sadly we believe Flashheart was lost in the battle but some how I don't think that will hold him back

* here is a Forward from the other Aaron in our campaign, the Undead player. he has been enjoying a fair bit of success so far *

his warband:

Asvald, vamp, heavy armour, great sword, now has gritbastard plus a horse and shield

Elsa, necro, dagger, gained a staff after game 1, she's really a vamp, but prefers magic to combat

Harper, dreg, dagger, gained light armour, short bow, shield and sword after game 2, now has snapshot and malice
Gunvar, dreg, same set up as Harper, now has poisoner

Red Plague, ghoul, well done to people that know where the name's from
the Silent Sentinels

2 skellies, heavy armour, axe and shield, no changes other than stats, they never get taken out, lol

the Jaws of Fate, 2 direwolves, they can't improve, but have been deadly

game 1 vs alex, I rolled straight over him, he fled when there was only one youngblood left standing, lol, direwolf took his captain out of action, lol, this got me the library
game 2 vs leighton, 2 treasure chests, we took one each, then my vamp and direwolves moved up to get taken out of action (vamp can't die and dogs have no xp)
game 3 vs russell, kinda beat the snot out of one flank while his vamp failed to budge a skellie on a bridge to take a building, they were there all game, lol, his necro took down both direwolves before my vamp killed him, lol
game 4 vs alex again, the word roflstomp comes to mind, like our first game, I butchered him, he fled after half his band was out of action, this got me the temple of sigmar

* well now back to my stuff *
