And alternatively I run the same list without the missile launcher dev squad, i replace two lascannons with flak missiles in the second squad, and take a dark eldar ally with the Baron as the hq and a base squad of kabalite warriors to help get first turn.

I really like that list but it feels like your running a Salamander list with Iron Hands tactics.

I kind of am but i like that every one of my marines has feel no pain and my chapter master almost never dies. 2+/3++/6+++ With eternal warrior, adamantium will, feel no pain, and it shall not die. And my drop pods are a little stronger than the standard because of the it will not die rule. I just like the tactics better than salamders.

Plus the Iron Hands paint scheme looks sick when 11 drop pods come down on the field

You only have a single flak missile for anti air. If it was a single dakka jet you may kill it luckily. But a storm talon or raven would laugh. And the helldrake would not get touched.

I like the list, but let's face it. Us drop pod armies will always lack in AA it seems. Can't counter everything.

Also you should put a extra Flamer in the assault squad. No reason not to add another flamer. 5 pts for 2 flamey goodness

I would be 1 point over with that other flamer. Also 4 lascannons even though they hit on 6`s can work for flyers. And true flak doesnt work for everything but it helps. Its not perfect for AA but im not worried about 1 heldrake wrecking my army.

I just play-tested this list and i think i am lowering the number of pods. Basically stragety for it is stick everything without a pod on the skyshield for the 4+ inv. Save. And drop the assault squads/sternguard round 1. The tac squads support as needed and capture objectives. The stalkers are for AA and the pred is anti tank/mc

I think your first list was good, just had to swap out the assault squad for two Storm Talons with Sky-hammers. Maybe drop that second devastator squad to fill in the points for the flyers and an Aegis Defense Line for additional Anti Air, you could of course man the space marine devastator sergeant on the Quad gun.

Anybody have any suggestions or theories on the second list?

I like the second list, but I'm not a fan of the scouts with sniper rifles in this case. Once your main scoring troops are on the ground, they aren't very mobile... such is the plight of the drop pod lists. I would consider using a land speeder storm with heavy flamer and some bolter or close combat scouts in it for deep striking late game (hopefully) to steal an objective or two. One of those rings in at about 100 points, so it should be a fairly even trade, albeit lighter on bodies...

I also think the drop pod squads should load up on as many special weapon shots as they can so your initial strike has more impact. Perhaps you can find some points to give the sgts combis to match the meltas in the units? Also, when combat squadding on the drop you'll be able to have one squad put out 2 melta shots and a crack grenade, and the other focus on troops with bolter shots and another crack grenade. and even screen a charge? Either way, combis may be a good idea, or at least melta bombs for those MCs.

Can the skyshield be outfitted up with any weapons?

the scouts are just a filler for my skyshield so noone can ds onto it.It cant be outfitted with weapons either or i would have stuck a quad on it lol. And the alpha strike already has 9 meltas and two flamers.

The second assault squad doesnt have the combat shield it has a flamer.

And i realize its a litle slow moving for objectives but i deploy close enough to them to that i can pretty much negate that.
