So i recently bought Skorne as a friend of mine has Trolls(also thinking of selling them). Now i like the idea of Skorne and using souls, like cryx to me. But i seem to be having trouble with the models. Like i am in a predicament of, i like the models but then i don't. Some appeal to me but others do not. The game play seems cool though.

I spent a good bit of money and jumped in at 35points. lol bad idea, but hey live and learn i guess.

Has anyone else out there ever compared these 2 or was in the same predicament as i am now and how did you resole it. I want to play 1 and only 1 of them so buying both is out of the question. I already know that Trolls are a bit more costly but that doesn't bother to me if i am only buying 1 army.

I need help as right now i hate my wargaming life and don't even want to play a hordes army and will end up going back to khador...(would rather play fury)

Thanks Cheers

I'm not sure what the question you're asking is. Could you clarify?

Are you having trouble against Trolls? - There is no broad matchup problem between Skrone & Trollblood, would need more info.
Do you want to proxy Trollbloods as Skorne? - Won't fly in official stuff, but ask your buddy.
Are you having trouble using the models you like in Skorne? - This could be an issue if you're like super attached to the artillery or something, but otherwise it's probably an overall composition/caster issue.

I was in the same predicament. I love Love LOVE the trollblood models and almost chose them over Skorne. What eventually settled it for me was reading the fluff. I fell in love with the Skorne fluff and didn't care about the Trollblood fluff at all. A lot of the models I didn't care for suddenly got a lot cooler when I knew their story (Makeda, Mordikar, the various Cataphracts). Now I'm all Skorne all the time.

Also, being a big Blindwater fan too, Rasheth was another deciding factor.

no, i am having trouble deciding which army i want to fully start and dive into as a faction.

I love trollblood models of how they look. i always have and probably always will..
as for skorne, i am back and forth on if i like them or not. Some models i like others i dont. which is why i am having trouble painting i think.

But the game play of skorne seems really really fun to me, almost like cryx with the souls but for hordes.

i am new so i dont know much about wither one, but i do like me some ranged units in my army.

and like is aid i did dump money into a 35 point army because of my add, lol

Cryx and Skorne are really nothing like. Skorne does have some models that use soul tokens, however this tends to be a rather internal affair. That is they gain soul tokens when their models die and are largely used for utility effects. It's somewhat unique, but Protectorate would still be the closer parallel than Cryx.

Skorne also tends to be far less spammy in terms of troops count, and tends to rely on beasts for the backbone of the work. Not really cryx like.

Trollbloods has a higher model count, but is no way like Cryx at all. Trollbloods are all about Syngery, and stacking bonuses to make it so that a MAT of 7 on a card is really a 11 in practice and the like.

If "Plays like Cryx" is what is potentially drawing you to Skorne, I wouldn't worry about it, they don't.

My opinion, Trollbloods!Tthey look fun and ive always liked orkish look they have. They have various play styles but are more tailored to melee from what ive seen. Gun bjorn and the shooty units but thats a small faction.

if you like cryx play cryx lol skorne is a weird army I havent looked much into them. They have a few cool models but the ones i like arent considered top tier meh...

In any case if you like them both collect them both just do it at a slower pace. but seriously TROLLBLOODS!!!!

Good...Bad... Im the guy with the, GUN!

Well "Attrition" is a win condition. Attrition means you win by getting asymmetrical model trades from your opponent, until they lack an effective army when you still have one without trying to seal the deal early by winning on scenario or getting a fast kill on their caster. "Beast Heavy" describes a model composition, that you have most of your points tied up in Warbeast models and relatively few combat warrior models. While attrition lists do tend to lean towards tough infantry you shouldn't think of these things as existing on the opposite ends of a spectrum. "Attrition" is no more the opposite of "Beast Heavy" than "Assassination" is opposite "Infantry Heavy".

Trolls at their heart are always going to be about synergy and buffs. Certainly they are more infantry-focused than the other hordes factions, but they can still run beast heavy builds fine. These beast heavy builds will still lean towards the faction identity of buffs & synergy with infantry playing a support role. Again none of this really is inherently coupled with or opposite to "Attrition".

Skorne is basically about hitting your opponent so hard he can't recover. You can then either deliver that blow with the Alpha Strike or you can use chaff to soak your opponents initial blow and then land your own in a more attrition styled approach. Either way, you hit your opponent very hard.

All Skorne beasts can punch well about their paygrade due to the prelevance of strength/damage buffs. They also have plenty of speed buffs available too.

Their analog is definitely the Protectorate. Heck we both even have 2 identical units in form and function(Paingivers/Choir)

Some Skorne models use Souls and are thus good Counters to Cryx, to keep them from stealing our souls and what not (Mordikaar and Aptimus Zaal particularly).

When it concerns Trollbloods and Skorne, they have some differences in play style based around core things like Fury Management, and infantry levels.
Otherwise, both are good at the premise of filling the field with beefy tough stuff, and providing an unrelenting wallop. They just do it in different ways.

Trollbloods take the more infantry heavy account. Both due to having amazing Infantry, infantry focused buffs, and somewhat poor fury management systems. Troll heavies tend to have low threshold and high fury with somewhat low fury casters, averaging out at around 5 or 6 if you picked a caster at random.
You can do beast heavy in Trollbloods, it just takes more dedication and effort than for some factions (say, Legion).
Beast choices in Trolls tend to be things like Axers or Impalers and light beasts, with 1 heavy typically, like the ever present Mulg.

Skorne can do beast heavy well, with casters like pMorghoul and Rasheth, and just having strong beasts with strong fury management with our Paingivers. Some of our beasts provide internal fury management due to Bronzebacks stopping our Titans from going crazy while within 6".
Our Beast options tend to be concentrated in our Heavies due to their sheer hitting power, and our lights are famed for filling in gaps and providing overall utility (Drake, Krea).
It's easier for us to run Beast Heavy, and we can also do some infantry spam in the form of Nihilators, Praetorian Swordsmen, etc. While then once the infantry die having them be recycled to power solos.
However, we have less support units for our infantry, and everything tries to be somewhat self sufficient beyond the occasional Defender's Ward or Blackspot.

It all depends on whether you are more interested in the Mechanics or the Aesthetics though really, because if you figure out which of those is your priority, you'll be able to make a decision, and probably be happy with it.

Contrary to popular belief, Cryx doesn't really do souls as a main stick.

Sure they have a lot of enemy soul collection mechanisms. But they aren't an integral part of their plan to win. The best Cryx lists don't focus on Souls. They're a nice bonus and nothing more.

The same with Skorne, we collect friendly souls to power a few things but they're hardly an integral part of our strategy. And the one which does focus on giving AGs souls has a mechanism to give them souls without collecting from friendly models.
