Specifically the rokkit variety. Both pack cheap, fast, twin linked rokkit launchas in a fragile package.

Deffkoptas Pros:
T5, 2W, 4+, Jink
Scout, ignore terrain, turbo boost 24"
Deffkoptas Cons:
Small Squad with Ld 7 and no character with a boss pole

Warbuggy Pros:
5 points cheaper
No leadership checks
Warbuggy Cons:
Made from tissue paper
Fast, but not quite as fast

For my personal purposes, I'm talking about five strong units of either choice.

Deffkoptas kinda win because:

For 5pts per model you get:

A 24" Turbo (vs 12" Flatout)
Non-vehicle to avoid instant-death from non-S10 guns.
A 4+ Jink if your 4+ armor is penn'd
Scout if you have first turn, with the option of Outflank if you dont (vs always outflank to get any real use).

This is comparing the TL Rokkit, mind you. Buggies have access to Skorchas, and if you want to add a couple of those into the squad you wont be sorry. Even against Marines its going to cause a pretty chunk of wounds, though its better to get Bigshootas here for the 2-3 you dont take scorchas on (i would advise NOT getting 5 skorchas since you most likely wont get all 5 firing at once anyway due to range/not firing through your own unit)

I find Koptas to be better in every way EXCEPT the skorcha route, which is vastly superior to bigshoota spam for dealing with infantry. Yes the TL Rokkits will pen marine armor, but they are bound to have cover (or jink) and you are only going to on average hit ~3 of those 5 shots anyway, and probably flop a wound on one here and there. Rokkits would be better against bikes, MCs, or light vehicles.
Also if you really want to, add a Buzzsaw to one of the koptas and now they can charge to reliably kill vehicles. Its only S7, 3 attacks on the charge but its AP2 and against rear armor. Odds are, its going to destroy it after the other boys do a couple glancing blows.

If I was running a Trukk Rush style army I would go with the Buggies. Having an extra AV10 hulls will help with saturation. Otherwise I would run the Koptas. I am currently putting together a list which uses Zardsnark from IA8 and Bikes as troops. The Koptas will be FA. Tons of speed all with 4+ Saves and Jink. Where Koptas shine is there scout ability. Add in a Big Mek on bike with Killsaw and throw some Buzzsaw's on a few Koptas and then turn 2 split up and kill a few vehicles. The Big Mek can always take a Kombi-Rokkit or KMB as well for the turn 1 and possibly 2 vehicle shooing and he can take a few ammo runts as well if you really want to hit with him.

Over all it really depends on what the rest of your army contains. What other units are you looking to field?

That is true, if youre going an armor list as it is buggies are better because with the exception of Tau, no infantry can reliably hurt them. The more models you have that infantry can only scratch the better.
Along the same lines why i always run 2 MANz missiles, or none at all. A single trukk will never, ever reach a target but if i have two one of them is bound to reach something.

well the survivability against small arms fire is quite the same. most "small weapons" will need 6's to glance a buggy.
while against the koptaz its 5's to wound with a 4+ save

i think the koptaz win cause of the scout move and the ability to assault.

if you take 3 koptaz (the minimal effective squad size, like buggys) you are quiet probably able to inflicting at least one glance, even without the saw (vs av10: 9*2/3*1/6=1)

I run Koptas as single Model units, no Ld issues, can't overkill a target, wastes opponents shooting, etc.

i think the single kopta tactic kinda died since rokkits can no longer pop non-open topped vehicles in 1 shot. I did that before as well, fielding 2-3 solo koptas so i could spread their fire out if the first one popped the rhino i was firing at or something. Now theyve kinda changed rolls, rokkits that is, to reliably glancing light-medium armor to death or penning 3+ armor since only the Wraightknight has the toughness to make them not wound on 2s. Hell rokkits are even good against that thing since they still wound on 4s and pen the armor.

With 3 FA slots, odds are you wont kill much without firing all 3 solo koptas at the same target. Either 3 duo/trio units, or double foc solo units, might do enough damage.

I just found out my awesome league is allowing unbound. So for 898 points I can get a PK BikerBoss, PB on bike, KFF Killsaw BM on Bike, 10 Bikers and 1 PKnobbiker and 10 single Rokkit Koptas. Now I just need to make the bases for them since they were given to me without.
