For a while now I have been working on a fan made army for fantasy and would like everyone opinions on it. I call it The Hive and it is a army based around humanoid insects with an Africanish theme. The various different warriors are their because the Hive captures members of different races and forces them to change into insectoid creatures, assimilating them into the hive mind. and I know what you are thinking, that this is just the Tyranids in fantasy but I started this long before I ever started 40k so aside from a hive mind their is actually very little in common. I am currently on version 6.5 but so far have focused mostly on the rules and don't have a lot of fluff or points done yet so I would like any opinions and ideas you may have. I will have an attachment on this post to a pdf I made of it so you can take a look.

I quite like it.

One thing I noticed on a quick read through.

Shell of the Boto Beetle
The natural armor of the Boto beetle is one of the strongest in the world. Shields made of the shells of dead Botos
are able to protect the user from any attack, no matter how strong.
Shield. A character equipped with this shield can always take an armor save against any attack.

I'm assuming that you wish for this item to ignore negative armour modifiers, because there is only one/two weapons in an army which have the ignores armour special rule.

Or have it that "No matter the strength of the attack, the bearer of the shield is always able to take the 6+ armour save from the shield, even if it would normally ignore this/ ignore the rest of the armour save"

This is probably the closest to what I was originally going for when I thought up the item.

well, so far into the "book" i think the fluff underminds the old ones and other races too much. making it seem that it was all pointless thanks to deus ex gods of law, Everything from here on are questions and suggestions.
1.do all units have chitenous arms?
2.with all of the different kinds of heroes, a skaven bug, an elf bug, a human bug, just maek it one bug, but with different upgrades for each race, like 10 pts upgrade to ant leader or something like that
3.the killer wasps should not have hive mind, they are corrupted and so they should just be mindless killers.
4.treat carpenter ants like the skaven brass orb, an 8 inch throwing range as opposed to stone thrower.
5.make the carpenter ants more deadly, the fact that on a 2+ they just wander off that should be a 5+ effect, the current way has little risk and high reward.
These are all just from a breif reading, I like the concept i feel that it can be sort of like the Lizardmen with a ton of monstrous creatures, I'd love to help more, PM me if interested. I'd like to help you with some of the fluff and whatnot

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

It’s interesting that is how you see the fluff. It was far from my intention to step on the toes of any of the other forces in the Warhammer world but to show that the gods of law were a part of it and like to others both helped and hindered in their own ways. One of the biggest problems with writing fluff for them is the fact that there is nothing on them except that they exist so I kind of had to make it up as I when along and, being gods, I wanted to make them more grand and epic then most mortals but if you think I when to far that is good to know. I definably don’t want them to be a deus ex machina, they basically, like everyone else on the side of order, have no chance in the long run but they have been involved for longer than the old ones and feel they have more to lose. I would also love more help with the fluff and will be able to contact you soon I hope.
As for your questions:
1. No Chitinous arms are a special equipment available to some units in the army. If they can equip them it is listed in their entry in the army list.
2. I probably won’t be doing that. I was going for the feel of the lizardman and Orc & Goblins armies in that they are an alliance of multiple different races and I wanted that to be reflected in the unit selections. Also I would think that a single entry with all the different options available to each different kinds of heroes would be to cluttered.
3. I agree and it has been fixed
4. The carpenter ant is actually not based on a stone thrower but on the Dwarf Cinderblast bomb in that it is a short range explosive used by an underground race. Also the skaven brass orb functions almost the same as the Cinderblast bomb in that it is an 8” throwing weapon that uses the small template that the scatters like a stone thrower. I gave the carpenter ant a 10” range to represent the fact that the ant is not thrown but runs to where it explodes, but I have no problem with shortening the range.
5. Once again they were based on the Cinderblast bomb and that is how a misfire works with those weapons but if you do think they are to safe I can go as high as making nothing happen on a 4+

1 - 5. Gotcha, I under stand now.
I like the idea of the gods of law being mentioned in the background fluff, but kind of like I said in the PM, use one of their cultists to make the hive. So five the gods of law their spot, but not under a section named coming of the hive, but into a section kind of like the dwarf book, where it briefly goes over the creation of the world.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
