So here's my idea for a list for the new codex making done assumptions based on rumours.

1. The price of a bare bones rune priest will fall to match other lvl1 psykers

2. Grey hunters will get a character in there squad and will have to pay the same as marines for plasma and melta guns.

3. Wolf guards combi weapons will be 10pts each.

4. The new shooty flier will be around 230pts.

5. Whirlwinds will be the same points cost as the marine codex.

Given these assumptions I have created a 1500pt list with a few points to spare just in case my points are off. Do you guys think is close to what I will able to field?

HQ
Rune priest (around 70pts)

ELITES
5 wolf guard - 175pts
5 combi meltas, drop pod

TROOPS
10 grey hunters - 220pts
Combi plasma, melta bomb, 2 plasma guns, drop pod

10 grey hunters - 220pts
Combi plasma, melta bomb, 2 plasma guns, drop pod

10 grey hunters - 210pts
Combi melta, melta bomb, 2 melta guns, drop pod

10 grey hunters - 210pts
Combi melta, melta bomb, 2 melta guns, drop pod

HEAVY SUPPORT

There it is the general idea is that the whirlwinds hide and deal with any horse threat. And the mass of plasma and melta drops down.

Rune priest is going up to base lvl2 so why do you anticipate a 30 point drop?

I didn't know it was Lvl 2 base if so I have 30pts to play with anyhow.

And you think we wont have to pay for the wolf guards in the grey hunter packs?

I do but I presume grey hunters will cost a similar amount to space marine squads so I calculated a marine squad with all the upgrades because we lack chapter tactics and combat squads.

Oke, we will see how close it is in 2 weeks, when the codex is available

And what psychic powers will you give your rune priest?

Is this built up against anything in particular? If not why use the whirlwinds? I love the model but have never really had much use for em, instead put some Long Fangs or a 6 man Blood Claw squad in the flyer, its an assault vehicle so make use of the shock and awe of firing then dropping them off and letting them punch things to death

Where on earth will the rune priest go in this list? Pods can only take 10 guys, and Terminators count as 2....will he just be wondering around on his own?

Looking at the points I think you're right. .

I honestly dont think the WW is great at what it is supposed to do. I personally think for the points you should get another rune priest or something.

+1 for long fangs. Especially with the ability to split fire meaning you can engage the same number of targets as whirlwinds. As long as they keep this rule.

Either that, or vindicators. No likes facing a vindicator.

They are not termis and I know long fangs are great but they don't get indirect fire so will be easy pickings for my opponent if they get turn 1.

Assuming you have to pay for the wg in the gh packs...

In the pg squads: 140+30+10+10+5+35=230. If the rumour is true and +2 points for ccws, then 250. (10men+2 pg+wg upgrade+combi-plas+mb+dp)

Your chapter tactics are acute senses and counter attack. Which is pretty good, Especially if sw are getting more access to outflank.
