This list is my campaign force versus an Ork list. I believe that he will be packing a Stompa, and at least 120 boyz. So, this is what I'm thinking of taking to combat him.

HQ- Marneus Calgar with Armour of Antilochus = 285
ML2 Librarian in Terminator Armour = 115
4x Honour Guard with Chapter Banner = 135

Troops- Tactical Squad with flamer, missile launcher and Rhino = 195
Tactical Squad with flamer, heavy bolter and Rhino = 190
Tactical Squad with multimelta, meltagun, combi-melta and Drop Pod = 205

Elites- Assault Terminator Squad with 5x TH/SS in LRC with multi-melta = 485
10 Sternguard Veterans with 2x combi-meltas, 2x combi-plasmas and heavy flamer in Drop Pod = 315
(Deathwatch) 5 Sternguard Veterans with 2x combi-melta, 2x combi-flamer = 160

Fast Attack- Stormtalon Gunship with skyhammer missiles = 125
Stormtalon Gunship with skyhammer missiles = 125

Heavy Support- Vindicator = 125
Centurion Devastator Squad with 3x grav-cannons = 250
Stormraven Gunship = 200 (Transporting Deathwatch Sternguard)
Thunderfire Cannon = 100

Total- 3000
Thoughts?

I might focus your sternguard/deathwatch’s weapons a little more. Or just run basic bolters. I feel you are spending a lot of points for flexibility where you might never use it.

Other then that, looks pretty good.

Honestly are you going for fluffy or competitve? Because your list is lacking in both. Cut the heavy weapons out of the tac squads and make sure those sternguard are kept cheap. Librarians are not that good, get tiggy or cut him for another sternguard squad in a pod.

Libs are decent. But they are pretty bad compared to chaos sorcerers :(

Really, I thought the Libby would be okay! Buffing the Cents?
I think what I'd maybe like to do is drop the melta Tactical Squad to five men and remove the multimelta?

If you can bump the librarian to tigurius, do so (he’s quite good this edition), but there is nothing wrong with the basic lib. He might be outshined by other faction’s psychers, but we work with what we have.

I’d try to keep the tac squad at full with the MM. UM tactics have two options to help him snap-fire, and you might not be moving all the time. For a 3k list, 3 full tactical squads seems a little light, honestly. Particularly since you are fielding Calgar, so can twin link them twice a game.

If you are looking to shave points, drop a majority of the combis from the sternguard. 10ppm is a high price to pay for one shot.

Do yourself a favor and shave 10 pts somewhere to add Tigurius. Stick him with your Cents.
I would also re-think the termies/land raider combo, i would rather have more shooty units against Orks. They will be easily tarpitted and killed

Stenguard with mixed combi-weapons are okay because they can combat squad, but don't mix all three types.

I would stick to flamers and meltas. There are very few targets in the ork army for plasma guns - their elite infantry's two wounds means melta fire is still better

The Deathwatch's weapons are a touch odd. A power axe is an excellent squad-butcher but unwieldy is a bad move - you don't want to be striking after ork boyz (a maul might be better).

If you take a melee weapon and combi-weapons, you want to get close (and you've got the gunship to do so) but if you do that, your heavy weapons are a waste, especially the plasma cannon which can't even snap fire.

Also, if taking 2 Storm Talons and a Storm Raven, break them off the Combined Arms Detachment and field them as an Astartes Storm Wing Formation Detachment. The whole block comes in as one because the Talons both count as escorting the raven, and the raven benefits from the talons' strafing run as long as one is alive. No extra cost and well worth it.

I'd tool up the storm raven with multimelta and lascannon. If your friend does turn up with a stompa, you're shy on heavy anti-tank...

Honor Guard seem a much better choice that termies against Orks

How about I reduce the Deathwatch to 5 men, with 2x combi-flamers, 2x combi-meltas and a regular bolter? Or keep the power axe?
The aircraft would definately be Stormwing, too good to pass up for free!

So, removed half of the Deathwatch, what now?? 205 points up for grabs, with the fresh point smell!

Switch the libby to Tiguirus and get a couple more grav Centurions. Stick him with them, roll on divination, correct a lot of their flaws.

Again, not too keen on Tiggy. I feel that my Termie Libby can achieve a decent result on the Biomancy, Telepathy and Telekinesis charts.

Perhaps an Honour Guard squad or Vindicator?

If you think there is going to be a stompa on the table, you might want to grab another anti tank unit.

At 3000'pts you got some room to improve, specially if you're tailoring against Orks.

Some must haves:
-Tigurius, drop the termie Libby, throw the Cents in the Stormraven with Tiggy and roll on Divination = win
- quad lascannon devastators, with dev doctrine? Those are the tits! Hide them behind a wall and pop them out with relentless
-TFC, against Orks this will be an MVP, stick the devs in the reinforced ruin

Stuff you can shed:
-the pods, unless you're going with a full pod army, he won't have any problems bubble-wrapping critical units so stick with rhinos
-the 5 man sterns, you already got a full stern squad, use the points elsewhere

Final thoughts: who's Calgar hanging with? How are the termies getting in the fight? Considering the Orks lack of fearless, you should consider Honour Guard with Calgar for the ability to sweep and strike first, those guys and Calgar in a LRC FTW.

Good luck!

I can't really put much in my HS slot, unless I drop the Vindicator, which I am loathe to do.
I still refuse to take Tigurius, as I feel my own Librarian can do a decent job. My drop pods work very well in capturing far flung objectives, and my regular opponent has never yet used bubblewrap!
My termies are in the LRC with Calgar.
My 5 man Sternguard are (were) bought with the Stormraven as Deathwatch, and unless I can find a fluff reason to take a Deathwatch transport with Deathwatch Marines, I won't get rid of them. If I need points, I'll drop the full squad and put the smaller squad in the pod.
