Is anything critical to playing the game missing from the small version?

Nope, small book is just ''fun'' sized. And lacks the fluffy bits. And I think its missing some of the alternate missions.

It's missing 2 of the 3 books that come with the BRB boxed set, but they're the ones that contain the fluff and the (awesome) model galleries. You get all you need to play from the mini book.

TBH, even if you have the BRB proper, a mini book is probably a good purchase anyway, since it's "travel sized" and easier to flip through if you need to check stuff. Plus that way you don't have to worry about any accidents messing up your nice, coffee table quality book when you take it out of the house
