Hi all,

About to start on a new army tonight and thought I may as well write up a bit of a blog about it, the army is centered around the Scion Airborne Assault Formation from the Militarum Tempestus codex.

I'll go through the process from idea to battle reports at an upcoming event.

SELECTION OF ARMY

I chose this as a build as it seemed like alot of fun to play tactically. the formation comes to around 1250-1300 points (4 Valkyries, 30 Scions, Command Squad and Commissar) with all the bells and whistles I would run in an optimized list. This left me with the need to expand on the force for bigger games.

I thought for a while about bringing in some armour or moer bodies in the form of guardsmen, however, they just feel to static and don't really blend with what I wanted to accomplish from a gaming and fluff perspective.

Then the new Assassin Dataslate hit... I was sold immediately! I will be making the army based around the assassins being sent in to eliminate a key target and the scions there to extract them once the deed is done.

It will take alot of finesse to make this army work well together, a challenge I look forward to.

MODEL SELECTION

The Scion models, while very cool, just don't float my boat. I think they are a little steam punk like. I looked for alternatives for a while and was nearly sold on the late 90's storm troopers (the ones with berets), I ended up setttling on the Kasrkin Models. They just scream cool and are armed appropriatey.

Picking the army commander and commissar was a bit of a pain, and I am not 100% convinced in the direction I have gone. It will be a wait and see deal when the army is all together I think. So far I have a metal commissar running with power sword and plasma pistol, the FW hostile environment commander (could go either way with him as he looks quite commissar like) he was chosen mainly for his rebreather looking similar to the Kasrkin and I wanted a bit of a rare centerpiece, the rogue trader imperial assassin (who better to lead this team?) who I will arm with a plasma pistol with scope. I also have marbo as a possibility, but he may join the army in another way later...

The Assassins are all metal and i'll use the older Vindicare and Eversor sculpts with Callidus and Culexus.

Valkyries will also be out of the box though it's here that hopefully ALOT of conversion work comes in, I want a very thematic looking and dynamic force. More on that soon as I begin building.

Additionally I have some cadian hostile environment vox (towers?), these will sub out with a lasgun trooper in games where I use them, or be possible objective markers. Also obtained a variety of ammo crates and cadian rebreather heads to help bring the valkyries to life.

Here's a test run on the paint scheme for the Valkyries, Blown away by the engines, so far they are just coated black with Secret Weapons Iron pigment rubbed on by finger.

Decided to reverse mount the wings on these too, just for a change.

A bit of an update, painting is underway, a command squad, commissar complete and the 4 Valkyrie are nearly done. Just need to add squad markings.

There's a chimera WIP there with a camo net too. The leaves match my bases. It was my first attempt with a sponge so keen to hear feedback.

Chimera WIP. I am using 20 catachans in 2 chimera, 2 hellhounds and 2 hydras. I want to net them all up.

Harker will lead one unit and straken the other after being demoted to sergeant, marbo meanwhile, infuriated with being left out of the latest book, swiftly slit the throat of the platoons commissar and assumed his role.

The load out for the vets will be demolitions with a flamed and melta squad, will run flamers on all tanks too. Maybe a bit risky tactically, but more fitting for the jungle fighters I feel.
