I'm a complete noob (literally four days into WH 40k) and my army is not yet complete.
I just want an opinion with how I'm starting.
I will be adding a fire warrior squad and a couple of pirhanas... I think...
This is my list thus far... (Please correct me if the point values are wrong per model... I'm still trying to learn how to read my codex.)

7 Gun Drones: 98 points
6 Pathfinders: 66 points
3 Pathfinders w/ Ion Rifle: 30 Points
2 XV8 Crisis Battle Suits: 44 points
1 Crisis Commander: 85 points
1 Pathfinder w/ Rail Rifle: 15 points
1 Recon Drone: 28 points
1 Markerlight Drone: 12 points

I made one of the XV8 Crisis Battle Suits into a commander so I could use him as an HQ and not spend an extra butt load of cash.
Any suggestions as to what I should add?
We are starting an Escalation League at my local store with 500 points and finishing at 2000 points.
As of right now if my point totals are correct I'm at a 378 point army.
If this is correct I have 122 points left that I can work with to make my army better.
Like I said, I'd like a vehicle and at least one fire warrior squad.
I'm definitely open to suggestions though.
Thanks!

The suits need weaponry, they don't come with anything you actually have to outfit them. With two weapons each that's typically 30pts a suit. So with your three suits that's pretty much it.

Definitely add two units of 6 fire warriors, drop the ion weapons on the pathfinders, your suits have the heavy weapons. The pathfinders are close range support for fire warriors and a source of marker lights.

Expanding beyond that add another squad of suits and bring the fire warrior squads to full strength, consider getting piranhas, they are quite useful to field in bulk. Above 1000 points a squad of broadsides is highly advisable, I take them for AA. Also consider a riptide at this level, it has all the versatility of suits but is substantially tougher.

I would also recommend looking into the farsight enclave supplement, it gives tau some pretty great options.

well first off yes, you need fire warriors because you have no troop choices, and you need 2 of them minimum, and you need to choose which weapons to put on your suits, I recommend fusion blaster and plasma rifle, just because Its an OK, all around choice, eventually, you want to specialize your suits, like anti-tank or anti-infantry. your list, as I see it should be. you have to be careful with your drones, because if enough die, your men are going to need to take a Ld check to see if they run away or not.

HQ
crisis commander - 2 missile pods ~130 pts.

Troop
6 fire warriors - plain - 54 pts.
6 fire warriors - plain - 54 pts.

Elite
XV8 suit - fusion blaster, plasma rifle - ~50 pts.
XV8 suit - fusion blaster, plasma rifle ~50 pts.

Fast Attack
10 pathfinders - 2 pulse rifles, shas' ui, marker Drone ~100 pts.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I just realized after reading your posts that the points I have listed are without weapons. Thank you for the suggestions and help!
