Is 40k still pretty popular? I feel like the interest in 40k has been declining.

Still the biggest in the biz, but in more and more areas it seems to completely die out and be replaced by other games.

still strong, people on forums just like to complain. when you think about it, maybe 40% of 40k players are online, and only half of that 40% are leaving, so no, its fine, just don't judge my online posts. Remember the addage: the squeeky wheel get's the grease

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

Sorry for quote mining, but I just had to...
40%?
Really?
A relatively expensive and social hobby that almost exclusively is the domain of white, middle-class, nerdy by definition, males in the 15-30 year old age group, and you honestly believe that, in 2014, the majority of those people do not have some sort of online involvement?
Come on.

Come on. Out of 60 nor so people in my area, ranging from 11-50 only about 10 (at most) of us are online. All have blogs of those 10, im the only one on a forum. I personally think its less than 40%. I should say who participate on the internet. Most find forums like this a pain and dont bother due to whatever reason they have.

Mabye strong in your area, but dead where I live. Also my not so local friendly gaming store, their 40K stuff is dwindling, I see empty shelves and for months haven't been filled. Hell I think PP is getting more shelf space than 40K.
So it depends on what area, but from what I see, 40K is dwindling. Still the biggest out there, but not the mountain it once was.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I don't mean to be rude, but there is a nearly identical topic "Is 40k dying?" about 5 spots from the top of this page. That's not to say the conversation isn't worth having, it's just that I'm guessing one of these two threads will inevitably be closed. And just because a person uses the internet generally doesn't mean they're part of 40k forums in specific, much less this one.
Anyways, there's been a mass hysteria for the last six months or so, with people combing through sources trying to find the secret prophesies that spell the end of days for GW. A few data points by people desperate to confirm their bias never means anything.
In any case, 40k appears rather cyclical, not only for players but for groups of them as well. It would be tough to set up a proper empirical study of it.

From what I've seen, 40% would be generous. Maybe it's different overseas, though.
However, as pointed out, there is a duplicate conversation already going on, so I'm locking this one down as redundant.
