Just getting into FOW and picked up two copies of Open Fire. I also picked up the Market Garden book figuring that would give the best flexibility with starter lists for the Brits and US.
The problem I'm running into is if I want to build my 2 US parachute platoons into an 82nd or 101st list, where can I pick up an airborne HQ without buying the full Parachute Rifle Company or picking up some PSC figures and pretending they're airborne? Is standard procedure to just buy another rifle platoon and cannibalize it a bit or is there an option I'm missing to get my HQ on the cheap?

A good command set is the Company of HEros set,or the PAra warrioors of Market GArden .I would not use any Regular infantry rifle as they have a totally different style of uniform unless you are playing Glider rifles. The Bull turner Set is also a good set.
PSC American infantry are tru scal so they will look out of place with BF 15mm HEroic. But i do like the Psc USA Infantry weapons set.If you ever expand into Glider rifles this set will save you some dough. Also look at some of the Peter pig models for 5 bucks a pack you cant beat them.http://www.peterpig.co. uk/range8.htm

Alot of nice, models in this set
If you need them i can provide comparsion piks.

Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I was looking for. I discovered the Peter Pig command sets shortly after posting and was wondering how well they would work. Sounds like not bad at all.

It might just be me but the Open Fire kit seems favor the Germans more when it comes to starting an army. the Jerries get some AT guns, StuGs which are both good additions to any Jerry army and some Infantry. The Allied side on the other hand
gets US Airborne, 2 75mm Shermans and a Firefly. 3 Shermans isnt much to go on when you want to have a UK Tank army. The Airborne then limit you to only the Airborne lists and even further if you want to use the Shermans too.

Actually you get 6 75mm Shermans and 2 Fireflies, which is either 2 HQ tanks and 2 platoons of 3 or two full platoons and you need to pick up a couple extra tanks for the HQ. Either way it is in my opinion a good start to Brit Armour. The real issue I see is that the Sherman sculpts are pretty poor especially compared to the new Plastics which are just being released.

To the number of Shermans and Fireflies is kind of why I picked up 2 sets of Open Fire. Just needed to pick up some PSC Stuarts to start a Grenadier Guards list, on the German side grabbed an 81mm mortar platoon for kicks, and think with the addition of an airborne HQ (thanks again col. krazy kenny) and some cromwells and a challenger should have the start for the US 101st. Don't appear to really have to invest too much to get started with 3 armies.
