So a local shop is starting an escalation league. I'm thinking about running Nids. It starts at 700 points and goes up by 100 each week to 2000 by the end.

I'm not worried about winning. But what is a cool, fun Nid list to play? I don't mind if it gets stomped just so I have some fun whilst it happens! Maybe something with a slightly different playstyle than my Dark Eldar (Coven army) or my Thousand Sons.

I had thought about a Vanguard infestation army, led by a brood lord, bunches of genestealers and some lictors and what-not, but maybe I'm missing some other fun things out there? Warrior spam? Nidzilla is of course fun too!

So just reply here. Let me know what I should be considering!

How about restricting yourself to only using Formations? At the first couple games, use only the Vanguard, then move through the three dataslates as the points are available. There's a lot of useless Formations that are nevertheless fun to use on the table for their gimmicks.

Interesting!

I haven't seen the different formations. I know what the vanguard is because of the models, but I'm a bit in the dark as to what it actually does. I may look in the formation thread....

Hyperspace

Start with-

HQ-
Flyrant- TL BL Devs, Hive Commander, eGrubs (260)
Flyrant- TL BL Devs, eGrubs (240)

Troops-
•Termagant Brood- 10x Termagants, 5x Devourers, 5x Fleshborers (60)
•Hormagaunt Brood- 19x Hormagaunts, 19x Toxin Sacs (140)

800 points-
Add 10 extra Termagants to the Termagant brood, with 5x Fleshborers and 5x Devourers. Use the remaining 40 points on 5 more Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs.

900 points-
Drop 5 Hormagaunts from the Hormagaunt squad. Get a Mawloc. Keep Mawloc stock.

1000 points-
Add 5 Hormagaunts with Toxin Sacs to the Hormagaunt brood. Get a Venomthrope.

1100 points-
Drop 5 Hormagaunts and 4 Devourer Termagants. Get a Carnifex with a pair of TL BL Devs and Crushing claws.

I'll finish this later.
Avoid these units at all costs.
•Pyrovore
•Walking Hive Tyrant (and therefore Tyrant Guard)
•Maleceptor
•Toxicrine
•Haruspex
•Genestealers
•Broodlord
•Lictors (Maybe tag team with Mawloc. SUICIDE UNIT.)

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Seeing how you don't mind Stealers, take a look at the Broodlord Hunting Pack...at lower point totals it can do some serious injury.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

TN/AL/MS state line.

If you're not looking for super-competitive- I say Nidzilla!
Tyranid Primes/Walking Tyrants for HQs!
Warrior squads for troops!
Carnifexes! Lots if Carnifexes!
Low model count, so it will play fast. They are also the most customizable units in the 'dex, so you can equip them however you want.

Black Bases and Grey Plastic Forever:My quaint little hobby blog.

40k- The Kumunga Swarm (more)
Count Mortimer’s Private Security Force/Excavation Team (building)
Kabal of the Grieving Widow (less)

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.
