I may have a solid 1850 list I wanna start play testing for temple con.

No advice? Wow my list must be perfect!

I mean it's a really solid list, lots of objective secured lots of anti tank and the wyvern for anti inf. the only thing that seems a little out of place to me is the basilisk which I suppose is just there for a large blast.

To be honest most mech guard lists are just cut and pastes as every solid mech list will have: pask punisher as loaded out with executioner buddy, multiple vet squads in chimeras with plasma or melta and maybe some other upgrades if points spare. The list will then usually include 1 or 2 vendettas and usually a squad or 2 of wyverns...and guess what your list has???? all that! lol so to be honest if you browse the forums you could probably just search guard mech lists and you will find the same comments every mech list fallows and thats to include the above units. Now theres some different ways to kit vets out but the staple is all melta or all plasma.

Why not plasma sponsons on the plasma tank? You have a lot of melta/lascannon, you really don't need more AT, but you could do with some more anti-heavy-infantry.

If you'd want to drop something, it could be the vanquisher, it seems redundant, and not that effective for it's role. I'd turn it into more wyverns.

But I did list the plasma tank with plasma sponsons...

The Vanquisher is there as a hybrid role to punch tanks but also wraith knights and instant kill broadsides.

I don't like the vanquisher either. It may instant kill a broadside, over the course of a game. That bs 3 one shot syndrome. If you are looking into single shot wounds, you might as well just ally a vindicare assassin. He would be more reliable and flexible.

A lot of people already mentioned that you pretty much have the back bone of any mech guard. It's pretty much just nit picking at this point. I run one vendetta at 1850, which can be hit or miss, but they are expensive. I prefer to just over load the board with armor. I also really like a hell hound in the mix. Not sure how competitive, but there are times when it can be terrifying for the opponent. My regular match up is against dark eldar and tau and it performs admirably in both. Nothing like flaming two venoms at once.

I don't know how crazy temple con is, but mech guard suffers against bike stars, or really just death stars. Even pask won't save you. Be prepared to feed a unit or more a turn to them, while trying to mess up his support units.

Also if there are a lot of eldar, the basilisk won't do much. I really like it, but it's best at keeping infantry off the table. If they are in wave serpents, it will not do much ever.

One issue I've brought up with guard is that mech guard is pretty mobile and will allow you to get objectives. But the vets are fragile and dont have a crazy amount of killing power to hold out.

Foot guard/blob/Gunline has a lot of killing power and has awesome bonuses from orders like ignores cover and tank/monster hunter. But this play style lacks mobility to get objectives across the board.

Both lists have weaknesses but the weaknesses really hold guard back from being a top tier competitive army from what I've noticed. A very playable and fun army but that's about it a fun army. It can put up a fight but usually will lose in the end. I've had a pretty good win streak going with my guard so far but I don't play against the crazy serpeant lists, or multiple riptide/wraith knight lists, or any crazy daemon stuff but I am enjoying guard and I would recommend you take what you enjoy and what you think will help your list.
