My friends and myself are starting a escalation campaign, and decided to start out with 500 points.

Hero:
Butcher - Level 2 - 135

Core:
5x Ogres - Standard, IF - 170

Special:
4x Leadbelchers - 172
1x Sabretusk - 21

Point Total: 498 Points

Hi Pelas,

As a fellow OK player at this level, I like this list. It has something for every phase, which is good, especially for Ogres at 500 points (no easy feat)!

In terms of suggestions, I have very few. My only ones may be to try and work an IF on to the Butcher (which is annoyingly 3 points), as I assume he is being placed into the Ogres unit, and will help his survivability. I'd also consider looking at a Musician over a Standard Bearer at this level as well, as charging is quite important to Ogres.

Good luck and good gaming!

Thanks for the advice. I will work it in!

Id say drop the leadbelchers and go for a comparable block of gnoblars. Static combat res would help against stunties and would provide something for the blacken shafts to strike home on. You do t need to consider the skytitan cannon either those seem too overrated.

Its nice, however at this points level i really think you are better off with a firebelly as your wizard/hero.

1. he has access to some really useful offensive magic which will help to whittle down enemy units before you hit. You are always going to be outnumbered, this helps level the field before combat.
2. fireball of any level can help against fast armys who will look to out flank you and run around keeping out of charge arcs. (DE Dark riders, i'm looking at you!)
3. his breath weapon can really help swing that crucial combat you NEED to win.

I would consider something like this:

Firebelly- Level 2- 160

5 Ogres- IF, Full Command- 190

3 Leadbelchers- 129
Sabretusk- 21

=500 on the dot.

Hope this helps

Ditto on Firebelly in place of Butcher. Also, I want musicians on all units that can take them. If you have more points, then standards where applicable. But definitely musicians, always.

(Basically Mixer's list, except drop the ogre champ and take a leadbelcher musician instead )

Seconded. Musicians are VERY useful, not just moving but also for rallying.

For example in the list i posted, drop the unit champion from the fattys in favour of a musician in the leadbelchers and you are ready to rock.

I like Mixer's suggestion of the Firebelly, especially at this points level. However, the list is a unit short, and 160 points is a lot to be laying down on a hero at this level. I suggest keeping the following:

Firebelly w/ Potion of Speed- 125 points

5 Ogres w/ IF, Standard and Musician- 180 points

4 Leadbelchers- 172 points
Sabretisk- 21 points

Total- 498 points

The Firebelly is already good at this level due to his breath weapon and flaming attacks. Put him into the Ogres, and save the Potion for the charge. Iniative 5 might not sound too flashy, but against a large portion of enemies (excluding Elves and Skaven) it will be enough to let the Firebelly strike at the same time as them, if not first. This van be deadly and decisive at such a low points level, and this is before your Ogres get to use their attacks. Ogres are never choosy with their food, but they like they like a good barbecue once in a while!

Also never, never forget your Impact Hits. Against high WS/I or ASF enemies (such as Elves) they can be the difference between winning or losing.

Never forget Ogre Charge either. Even if you are within easy charge range, always roll the dice. It's worth the possibility of D3 Impact Hits for each Ogre in the unit!

Good gaming all!

I'm confused, what do you mean by a unit short?

I also get what you are saying about the Initiative thing but wizard levels are far more important these days due to the random number of power dice you can use for each spell.

combinning the extra level with the lore of fire attribute once you cast 1 spell makes the rest of the lore easier to cast which can be great, especially at this level.

I'd actually probably keep the Firebelly a level 1 and add in the ruby ring for double fireballs, plus 10 points of something else

I want music artists on all models that can these. When you have a lot more details, then standards where relevant.

If it were me i would take:

Butcher w/ lore of beasts, and IF- 102 points (lore of beasts is insane on ogres)

5 Ogres w/ IF, Crusher, Standard, and Musician, lookout gnoblar- 195 points (butcher inside this unit)

3 Leadbelchers- 129 points

Sabretusk- 21 points

10 gnoblars w/ trappers- 50 points (id place a little to the front and side of belchers to force terrain tests and protect them from charge)

Total- 497 points

At least one of your butchers/slaugthermasters must use lore of the great maw, which means you can't take lore of beasts in the suggested list.

I do like a lot this list for 500 point games:

- Firebelly lvl 1, ruby ring, great weapon. 154

- 5 ogres, IF, banner, musician. 180

- 3 leadbelchers, musician. 139

- Sabertusk. 21

Total 494. Might add a lookout gnoblar to reach 499 points. Or change the great weapon for a 5 points magical weapon (ethereal units?), save 4 points for a total of 10 spare points to spend on champ or whatever fits you.

Another option:

- Firebelly lvl 1, ruby ring, great weapon. 154

- 5 ogres, IF, banner, musician. 180

- 2 mournfangs, IF, heavy armor. 140

- Sabertusk. 21

Total 495. Might add a lookout gnoblar to reach 500 points. Also, can swap the great weapon for an additional hand weapon, so you have 12 spare points for musician on mournfangs (much needed). It depends on your enemy (lots of armor = need the great weapon).
