As the community is wondering if it needs to rebase their armies after the new Blood Angels kits came with new 32mm size bases, GW now seems to have responded, and the response seems to be that 25mm bases are still in.

The newly released Necrons jidicator battalion (on preorders today) has this wording in the description:
"The Judicator Battalion web bundle contains 13 miniatures including 1 Triarch Stalker and 10 Triarch Praetorians. It is also supplied with ten 25mm round bases and ten 32mm round bases to give you the choice of how you want to base your miniatures."

http://www.games-workshop.com/en-SE/Judicator-Battalion-Web-Bundle

I for one, am happy about this.

lol. GW math. 10+1 = 13!!!!

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Wait so does this mean I can base the BA tac box on 25 mm bases now? I mean this answers the question for the new necrons but overall?

I think the messsage here is that you can use whatever you like, 25s or 32s, and probably anything in between if you wanted to. And for the record, I think anyone insisting you use 32s for new units added to an existing army that are identical to old ones needs to get a grip.

They've said from the start that they used 32mm for aesthetic reasons, and you can use either. I don't get the big confusion about the base sizes. Just use whichever you prefer. I prefer 32mm for Necrons and SM.

Where have they said this? Are you implying there is an official GW commentary somewhere that clarifies their intentions when they change the game mechanics..?

When the first BA kits with 32mm bases came out a few people emailed them and the reply was just that they chose 32mm for aesthetic reasons and you can use either. It doesn't change any game mechanics. It will affect things like how many models you can get in CC, or template weapons, but it doesn't actually change any mechanics.

It's worth noting that they said "including" not "limited to."

It's like if I said "I own fourteen cats, including Marlowe and Middleton." That doesn't mean I only own 2 cats and don't know what 14 means, it means that I own 14 cats, two of whom are Marlowe and Middleton.

Yeah, but the bundle in question doesn't come with any more models. It only comes with 11.

Anyway, it's just a typo.

Their was a rule in the 6th edition book near the front saying you where to use which ever base you where supplied with inside the box. If you're given 25mm in the box, use those no rebasing required.

If you're given 32, well I would personal use the 32's.

I once ordered a box of Wraithguard for my eldar and received a bunch of 25mm bases.... I was ALMOST, that guy before I decided to get some proper bases.

I think (someone confirm?) the rule now says something along the lines of 'use the base supplied, or an appropriate base size compared to similar models." So either or.

That's good to hear. I'm all for modelling opportunities and options, but I play in a mostly friendly context and stuff like this need to be clarified on official channels such as FAQs so people don't go all anal and e.g. force BA players to use 32mm in tournaments. Replying to people's e-mails individually (while good) is not a good way of doing this.

Anyway now it looks very clear it's an option to use them, not mandatory.

You are quite right, I was a bit sloppy. I meant game balance, not mechanics. Having larger bases is a definite drawback as you mention.

Oh I see. It's swings and roundabouts I think; if you use the 32mm you'll get less models into combat, but you're also gonna be effected less by template weapons, as the opponent won't get as many models under their template.

Nope, the Scarab base parts are part of the Warriors sprue.

32mm bases would be pretty annoying for infantry models. Cool looking with more possibilities for basing, for sure, and I totally believe GW's "aesthetic" choice. But in gaming terms, simply means the models take up even more space than they did before. Which would be advantageous for blast weapons, but disadvantageous for cover and positioning.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Yeah, this is a good point Veteran Sergeant (btw I love the avatar )- leaving it completely open to the player does create a degree of modeling for advantage. I feel like this is just a bit lazy on GW's behalf, ignoring any possible game issues (theoretical or otherwise) just reinforces the idea that they aren't interested in the gaming aspect of 40k, which would be fine and all if they weren't charging you out the nose for the rules.

I've gone with 32's even for my oldcrons, the space on them is awesome for their wide stance and you can really make it quite scenic.

I like the size of the 32mm bases on Space Marines and Necrons quite well. I suppose this whole thing might come from the fact that GW doesn't really want to anger all of its existing Marine players by "forcing" the base size change, but I feel like just switching all of the new Necrons/Marines to 32mm bases only (ala the redone Terminators kit) would have been the best way forward. Nobody would really be forced to change the bases any time soon, but as time went on it would become more expected to play with the current base size.

The 7th Edition rulebook basically says that base sizes aren't important, just base them as you see fit.

While I'm sure they didn't mean grab a 60mm Dreadnought base and stick your grot on it, it, it does mean they're not too concerned about whether it's 25rmm 32mm or 40mm. It also acknowledges that there are multiple generations of Marine and other units that came on different base sizes over the years.

No, it doesn't. It says to use the base the model came with, and if you get a model that has a non-standard base then you should use whatever a similar model has.

It says the rules assume that it's mounted on the base it came with. It also acknowledges that some players mount their models on different bases, and some models may even come without one.

In the case of models without a base it says you should feel free to pick a base of appropriate size based on similar models. Obviously if a model is already on a non-standard base they're not telling you to pull it off and stick it on an official base.

The language is advisory, not declarative.

Since the advent of 32mm bases, there are now two sizes a normal sized Marine can be mounted on. Since Marines are about the same size as every other unit in the game that means that anything can be mounted on a 32mm base if you want to.

Given how little part the base actually plays in the game, it isn't Warmachine after all, it isn't really a problem so long as the player isn't stupid about it, as my example of a grot on a dreadnought base would be.

They're giving you the options to base on whichever you want.

Personally, I think 25mm is good for normal infantry. Larger models like jump packs or characters make a little more sense on the larger 32mm base.

Have you actually read the thread? It has literally come to the opposite conclusion, that you don't need to rebase, so anyone insisting you rebase is in the wrong.

it's only in a courtroom that the word 'including' with a list of things after it ONLY includes the things after it.

it would spoil the flow of the sentence somewhat and indeed raise more questions to put 'includes without limitation...' before the list of things.
