Hi,

I've come up with two options for my very first game based on the models I've currently got to hand. Any suggestions?

Option A
Warboss with attack squig, mega armour, twin-linked shoota and power klaw - 115pts

17 Boyz (1 with Big Shoota) + 1 Boss Nob with power klaw & bosspole - 153pts

18 Boyz (1 with Big Shoota) + 1 Boss Nob with power klaw & bosspole - 159pts

5 Lootaz - 70pts

Total: 497pts

OR

Option B
Warboss with attack squig, mega armour, twin-linked shoota and power klaw - 115pts

19 Boyz (2 with Big Shootas) + 1 Boss Nob with power klaw & bosspole - 170pts

19 Boyz (2 with Big Shootas) + 1 Boss Nob with power klaw & bosspole - 170pts

Weirdboy - 45pts (alternatively 7 more Boyz split between the two units for 42pts)

Total: 500pts (or 497 without the Weirdboy)

Any thoughts? I keep changing my mind as to which one I prefer.

The second list for sure. Five Lootas will not likely accomplish much, and you lose two, with a failed morale check, and they're off the board. Lootas need to be taken in larger numbers. More Boyz will be preferable. At 500 you are likely to overwhelm other armies on sheer numbers. I also tend to prefer hordes, so I might be biased.

My two teef, er... cents.

- 2,000-ish
Daemons - 400-ish (Wife wanted to paint an army so she's working on this one for me. Yeah, she's that awesome.)

Thanks, I was generally leaning towards the second list myself. I've got a few boxes of Lootas so I'll paint them up when I'm scaling up to 1000pts.

Any thoughts on the Weirdboy? I don't know how much difference 7 more Boyz would make, but his unpredictably just sort of appeals to me.

Do you know what you are up against?
I would actually go the otherway and keep the lootas. Their range allows them to camp out far away from the action. If you get them in decent cover they can always go to ground and then snap shoot. You then at least have a chance of popping armour before the boys have to try to crunch it.
I would drop the big shootas from the LOOTA list, the ork boyz need to get the power clawed nobz and warlord into combat.
I think NICTOPOLY is correct in that you will overwhelm people at the 500pt mark with this list.

Probably going to be a Space Marine army (one's got Space Wolves, I think the other might have Ultramarines?), and possibly against a Tyrannid army at some more distant point.

Go with the weird boy over an extra few orks. The unpredictability is not a bad thing. Enemy gets zapped or troops deep strike right next to them is the sort of unpredictability I like,

If foot slogging get those boys units to max capacity, to maximize ablative wounds and keep mob rule as a thing. Give your warboss DLS for sure. That +1 WS and rerollable 2+ save, reroll to hit and to wound are excellent, and at 500, your opponenet will struggle to overcome it. At only +10 points over the attack squig, theres no reason not to. Just LoS any ap2/1 onto nearby boys. You can take the PK off your nob in the squad and give him a BC to make up some points. Use him to absorb challenges while your warboss eats faces.

Another nice option for ranged support at this level are mek gunz.

Sorry, I'm still quite new at this - what's a DLS?

Its a relic you can take for xx number of points. Adds+1 to the weapon skill of the entire unit, and lets your boss reroll his saves, his to-hit and to-wound. It has a catch, but its a pretty negligible one.

You are better off not taking Mega Armor on your Warboss at this points level. Any unit containing at least 1 model in Mega Armor can't run in the Shooting phase, or fire Overwatch. Since your Boyz units are footslogging, you will need to be running in the Shooting phase to get into contact with the enemy. Even if your Warboss isn't joined to one of the Boyz units, he's going to be pretty useless for most of the game moving only 6" per turn. Your opponent won't get anywhere near him if he's smart. If you were to put him in a Trukk, that would be better, but honestly you're better off not taking the MA.

Try this:
Warboss + PK + BP + 'eavy armor = 94 pts.
Then take DLS, or Da' Finkin Kap if you want. I really like Da' Finkin Kap, because it gives you a second Warlord trait from the Strategic table. For 10 points, the chance to Infiltrate your Boyz units is worth it every time. And you can re-roll because you're taking a CAD.
I agree on the Mek Gunz. I love Lobbas. They are worth their points every game. Assuming your friends/opponents are OK with it, proxy/scratch build some and see how you like them.
Since you have the models, max out your Boyz squads. I like the Weirdboy, but it sounds like you're still learning the game. Keep it simple for now.

Good luck young Warboss! May Gork be with you!

Then again this a starting army and $50 for a model is not good to start. I like the first list but remember to run them in high numbers. Boyz car and will get shot up if they're footsloggin. A 6+ won't save you, get rid of the big shootas and gice that boss Da lukky stikk it will help. Keep them in cover and when you round up add tankbustas for the anti-armor.

'Nids growing soon
3500 pts. unpainted
Admech 1000 buying & building
If you don't enjoy playing against people with unpainted armies, break into their house when they sleep, paint their figures for them, help yourself to their cheerios and then your problems will be solved.
Well, my opponents usually don't have more than 1-2 Wave Serpents 'cos Serpent spam is very expensive in real life money.

Thank you for all the advice, guys - plenty of food for thought. I'll mull it over while I'm painting the loads of regular boyz I'll need to churn out

just to throw in some more advice, Get rid of the Mega armor on the warboss, you need that run move to get close faster. DEFINITELY give your Warboss Da Lucky Stikk. against marines that means you will be hitting on 3s and he will be hitting on 4s, teamed up with your Number of attacks compared to his you will be greasing Tactical marines in 1 turn of CC.

Weird boyz are fun, but if your trying to learn the game right now just make 2 big squads of boyz, ditch the heavy weapons because your going to be running pretty much every turn. and have fun.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all

I would remove the Megaarmour and the attack squig, put Da Lucky Stikk on the warboss. (Attack squig if you have leftover point, but I wouldn't auto-include it)
The weirdboy can do wonder or nothing. I would keep it

Have fun throwing the WAAAGH in everyone's face!
