From the guys that did Cthulu Wars:

Based on the computer game. Co-op with one set, head to head with both sets.

Marketing description:

The award winning game Orcs Must Die has at last made its way to the table top! Orcs Must Die : The Boardgame dares you to preserve your stronghold sieged by orcs. You have traps & weapons galore, and can team up with your friends to obliterate the nasty orcs and their grotesque allies. Robot Entertainment has joined forces with award-winning designer Sandy Petersen to create Orcs Must Die : The Boardgame .

Orcs Must Die : The Boardgame has been designed for the tabletop environment. It includes scores of great plastic figures of all your favorite heroes, plus hordes of orcs, crossbow orcs, kobolds, gnolls, trolls, ogres, and more. Build an exciting fortress using our tile-based system, then watch as swarms of baddies plunge through your defenses to abolish your Rift.

Orcs Must Die : The Boardgame actually consists of TWO separate games! One is based on the heroic Order, while the other is for the Unchained. Both are complete stand-alone games. In Order, you’ll play your favorite heroes such as Maximilian the War Mage, Gabriella the Redeemed Sorceress, and others, while fending off the villainous orc onslaught. In Unchained, you play opposing heroes, such as the Kobold King or Midnight the assassin, facing down assaults by human soldiers, lions, elves, bears, dwarfs, and the like.

If you or your friends own both the Order and Unchained versions of Orcs Must Die : The Boardgame , you can go head-to-head, leading your armies into the citadel of your enemy! Up to 8 players can team up against each other in the combined game, which boasts well over a hundred large-scale high-quality figures.

How Is It Played?
Each individual game supports 1-4 players, who must co-operate to survive the enemy onslaught. You and your friends each choose your own hero as your game avatar. Each hero has his own individual sheet, with unique characteristics, special abilities, and a secret superpower, that you'll need to save for just the right moment. Each hero also comes with his own over-sized miniature figure and special weapon cards that no one else has access to.

When you think you are ready to go, choose a difficulty level, and a map – you can select one of the maps we’ve included, or create one of your own! A typical map is made up of from 4 to as many as 13 tiles (or even more, if you are inventing your own design). The game has a lot of pieces to play with, but the map itself is reasonably tight, and will fit just fine on a typical gaming (or dining room) table.

Finally, the fight begins! Each turn, waves of orcs and other monsters move pitilessly through the map, relentlessly aiming for your poor Guardian, trying to destroy him and your Rift. You and your allies run around the map, placing traps in the various parts of your map, battling the invaders, and performing a host of other actions.

You earn trophy skulls for killing your enemies, and these act as the game’s “cash” – spend them to buy new weapons, magic amulets, and a host of other items. You also can spend skulls to place traps, and to upgrade your Guardian, making him better-able to hold off the orcs, gnolls, and other enemies.

But beware – over time your enemies accrue in strength, too! You have to face three Onslaughts, and with each Onslaught, your foes increase in might. If you did not lay a solid groundwork for your defenses with upgrades and trap placements in the early part of the game, you may face doom later on!

Combat is easy and fun – you roll various colored dice depending on what type of weapons and upgrades you own. Remove “killed” enemies from the map, only to see them replaced by new waves each turn. The fun continues. The game builds up over time to a crescendo of doom, in which the last few turns see you frantically try to finish off the final waves of the onslaught before your crippled Guardian is destroyed!

If you get both Orcs Must Die: Order – the boardgame AND Orcs Must Die: Unchained – the boardgame you can play against one another. You and your friends will split into two teams – one side fights for the Order, and the other will control the Unchained.

Both sides have their own heroes, their own armies, their own Items, and their own traps. Your hero can defend your own citadel, or seeks to capture the opponents with up to 8 players.

What Comes in the Box?

The core game of Orcs Must Die: Order – the boardgame, includes:

The core game of Orcs Must Die: Unchained – the boardgame, includes:

And of course whatever stretch goals are unlocked during the campaign. Backers also get digital copies of the Orcs Must Die!, Orcs Must Die! 2 and beta access to Orcs Must Die! Unchained! included.

Price is $90 for one or $150 for both with no early bird specials and no add ons so far.

Arthur Petersen said that it may be pushed back until tomorrow, and would launch at noon eastern time. Based on the fact that it doesn't appear to be live now, I am going to assume that it has been pushed back.

updated the original post with more info.
The Cthulhu Wars models are nice quality, but it's hard to judge the quality of these as they are just 3d renders and no real close ups. I read they used the 3d models from the game for the renders, but I can't say that any of the models really impress me so far, where the Cthulhu Wars models by Fenris Games were very impressive from the start.

I am tempted, but CMON has their similar B-Sieged game coming out next month as well.

I need another miniature- heavy tower defense game like I need another skirmish game.

Considering this ends at the beginning of May, there's a chance we'll see some overlap between the 2 games.

I'll be keeping an eye on this here. I do like the trap placement and different types of dice. I think the CMON game will be a bit simpler (which can be both a plus and minus).

Plus piles of minis naturally. If I had to pick one rather than get both, I'd probably have to get the Unchained version due to the order having armored bear and lion men.
I've been wanting some lion men ever since Song Of Blades and Heroes had stats for some.

I set a reminder to check back on it. Since there weren't any EBs I didn't feel a draw to jump in just yet.

And cheaper, probably. $150 for the "full" game seems kinda high!

That 150 pledge gets you a player vs player mode with both players throwing piles of figures at each other.

Hopefully CMON will do likewise then

...and at a much lower price too, I would hope.

Info regarding seeing more pictures of the models here:

Arthur Petersen wrote: We will try to show sculpts as soon as we can - these will be 3d printed at the highest possible resolution (I believe 1 micron?) based on the actual characters and units in the digital games (including the upcoming OMD Unchained).

As such, they are not all posed in their final forms, let alone actually printed yet, as prototypes.

But, the point being, they will not be sculpted, but rather taken directly from the Video games.

Never backed any KSers from this company.

Do they just do a flat pledge and that's it? or is it a dump truck of pay for add-ons?

If it's just 150 bucks that's cheap compared to some other boardgame kickstarters.

Wish more companies would just stick to a single pledge and perhaps a few add-ons. Cheaper and don't have to pay as much attention.

Pressing F5 constantly and keeping up was fun as first. Now the novelty wore off.

These are the Cthluhu Wars guys.

A fair amount of add ons. That game was pricey. Everything was.

Not sure how this will play out, to be honest.

Stretch goals seem to include things for both games, so going for one version over the other may not be a bad idea.

Regarding add-ons Arthur said:

Our expectation is that this Kickstarter will be superlatively simple compared with Cthulhu Wars' KS. Very straightforward, very few pledge options - the project won't even start off with any add-ons! (But some will doubtless be unlocked throughout, as we are able to fund them).

I wonder if the lack of early birds costs them early critical mass on orders. Some people say that they hate early birds, but it does get people to pledge now rather than wait til the end to see what is unlocked. The game funded already, but it will be interesting to see how fast and far the stretch goals progress.

First stretch goals unlocked:

Mr. Moneybags

He is a new “boss” monster, though really he is more of a reward than a boss – he spawns by himself after one of the game’s onslaughts ends, and charges through the level. He is fairly hard to kill, and if he gets to the rift, you lose! On the other hand, if you can kill him, you earn a whole pile of skulls, which helps prepare you for the next wave of enemies, so he is mostly a blessing, but a mixed one.

You receive Mr. Moneybags if you have pledged at the Hero level. You only ever need one Mr. Moneybags at a time, due to his nature.

Each hero comes with a hero sheet, plus three weapon upgrades, which are different for each hero and are purchased as the game progresses. Here are the current hero sheets for Hogarth & the Kobold King, but be aware that they are subject to change as our playtests are ongoing!

Unfortunately until we get some pictures of samples of the actual models, I don't expect huge traction on this game here.

An unedited alpha copy of the rules is posted at https://petersengames.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/OMD-Rulebook-Ver11.docx No final illustrations or anything, but it does give an idea of how the game will play.

They also said they will be posting some more close ups of the digital renders in their final poses, and some test prints they did of models pre-kickstarter which are not in their final pose just so people can get an idea of the detail level on the models.

Additional bonus stretch goals have also been added as well.

Certainly looking a bit more tempting with a lot more bonuses, exclusives, and closer stretch goals getting piled in there.

Curious how much of that will actually end up in retail?

BoardgameGeek has a contest running for the next four days offering four copies of one or the other and a grand prize of one of each, if anyone's interested:

I don't like what they've done with the tiles. There's not enough commonality between them to make them look like a continuous corridor or something like that, it's just a bunch of clashing tilesets next to one another.

Here is a close up render of the orc crossbowman:

They are working on getting some more close up images posted.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Kickstarter update with some more up close renders:

The perspicacious among you will note that these are computer renders. We start with the models used in the Orcs Must Die! video series, but then we have to adjust them quite a bit to make them suitable for figures. We modify their structure, pose them to suit our needs, and make other adjustments until we are satisfied. For example, one change we make is to thicken the figures' legs and ankles, so that they are sturdier when standing on their bases!

We then link the 3-d models themselves directly to our Chinese manufacturers, who create the metal injection molds. Most of the models you'll see me using in our upcoming gameplay demo (watch for it soon) are simple (and brittle!) 3-D prints of our versions, which is why I handle them a little gingerly. But the real game models are constructed from top-flight, sturdy, yet detailed, materials. If there is one thing Petersen Games is known for, it's the quality of our figures and this project will not be an exception.

They added an option where you can get Cthulhu Wars for $150 if you get both base sets of Orcs Must Die! as well as rules to use the Cthulhu Wars models as enemies in Orcs Must Die!

There have been a number of unlocks since the last update.
